Vashon United Methodist Church

Vashon United Methodist Church We invite you to join us on the journey of faith as we seek deeper meaning, authentic community, and social justice.

We are intellectually curious people who read scripture through the lenses of tradition, reason, and our own experience. We hope that you will find this church to be a safe place to explore your own relationship with God and the world. Join us any Sunday at 10:00 am for in-person worship. During the Coronavirus pandemic restrictions, we are also broadcasting our worship service live from our sanctuary via Zoom.

We have all had moments in our lives... When we had no words to express our feelings... just a smile,
laughter... amazed at God’s provision... when our only response was wonder and praise .

One of Pastor Mark’s favorite Christian authors, Ann Lammott, writes about these kinds of moments. As she has gotten older, she’s realized that when she prays, her words often fail to meet the intensity of her life, they fail to capture the depth of her thoughts and emotions. So, these days she keeps her prayer life simple. She writes, “I do not know much about God and prayer, but I have come to believe, over the past twenty-five years, that there’s something to be said about keeping prayer simple. Help. Thanks. Wow.”

What are those “Wow, God!” moments in your lives right now?

What are the “Thank you, God!” Moments?

What are the “God, help me!” Moments?

Let’s create space this Advent season to say “Thanks, God” for the treasures of this life — family, friends, the beauty of creation — and let’s say, “Wow, God!” For the tiny miracles we experience each day — a sunset, a kind gesture, laughter — and finally, let’s not be afraid to ask for “Help!” For ourselves and the ones we love, and for the world.

Together, as we reflect on God’s presence and provision this season, may we all be filled with wonder and praise!

It is through our awareness of God at work in us and through us, and by our “Christ-like” actions — loving and serving others — that we are transformed into the likeness of Christ.

This is spiritual transformation: awareness and action.

Paying attention to God at work in us and living like Jesus.

This week, let’s spend some time thinking about our awareness of God…

1.) What actions can we take to increase our awareness of God’s presence in our lives?

2.) What actions can we take to increase God’s presence in the world?

God’s presence penetrates, every nook and cranny of life and beyond. Like oxygen, God, sustains us…God strengthens us! God’s presence is unavoidable, inescapable, and God is present at every level, and every moment, of our existence.

What is that thing that God is “calling” you to? It may seem crazy. It may seem extreme. It may seem ill-timed. You may feel unprepared or ill-equipped. Do you trust God farther than you can see!?

The beginning stages of an Electrical Vehicle (EV) charging station in our church parking lot are underway! We are committed to addressing climate change which is affecting all of God’s creation. The only other public EV chargers are at Thiftway and the schools campus! We are excited to offer this to our community.

Huge thanks to Steve and Eric for all their hard work!
