Friends,

On Thursday evening the Rinzai Zen Senter held its annual Årsmøte—its Sangha Meeting.

They now have north of 50 members and several active committees. Last year they reshaped the meeting to share some characteristics with ours at PSZC: committee reports, small gifts for new members, and food together. Participation has tripled, and Thursday night’s atmosphere was definitively kos—warm, relaxed, happy

The sangha here is made up of a wonderful group of people, much like ours—caring, hardworking people from all walks of life.

In my remarks, I told them that I feel the Zen Center has a great deal to offer Oslo. It is a practice well suited to the times we find ourselves in: a way to develop wisdom in a confusing world, adaptability in a time of rapid change, and community in a time of increasing isolation.

I believe Zen has much to contribute to whatever culture it meets. Watching this community take root in a new space and in its own way gives me confidence that the dharma continues to find fresh expression wherever people are willing to practice it sincerely.

I fly to Seatac Tuesday. Looking forward to seeing you soon,

Koshin
