James Evangelical Lutheran Church is a member of the Central/Southern Illinois Synod of the ELCA. Our congregation has been active for 149 years in Vandalia, Illinois, a small, historic, rural community approximately 60 miles from both St. Our ministries are many and varied, reaching not only our congregation but also into our community. Our services are traditional liturgical worship using Settin

g 4 of the "Evangelical Lutheran Worship" and supported by an adult choir and two handbell choirs. Sundays also include Sunday School for adults and children. We offer weekly Adult Bible Study, and Youth Confirmation. Our congregations reach out to the community through involvement in Habitat for Humanity, 6:35 Food Pantry, Fayette County Food Pantry, Salvation Army. We offer soup suppers before our mid-week services during Lent and Advent. We join with other congregations in providing weekly Lenten programs and lunch.
