Our day of worship is almost here & this Sunday we have a guest preacher, Turner Barnes, our local missionary from Northwest Collegiate Ministries.

Turner grew up in Sanger, TX, & attended the University of Texas. While in Austin, Turner connected with the Baptist Student Ministry, where his faith grew exponentially. After spending a summer on mission in Portland, he knew he would be called back for full-time ministry after he graduated. After returning to the Portland area, in 2022, he began working at Washington State University, Vancouver. Come learn more about his ministry & how we can pray, serve, give, & go in support!

If you cannot make it in-house, use this link to keep up with our livestream:

We hope you can make it!

Sincerely,
Pastor Matthew Ellis

In a world of false securities, where do you turn for real peace? ⚓️

True refuge isn't found in what we have, but in Who we follow. It’s a journey of humility and trust that leads to a promise bigger than we can imagine—a vast multitude from every nation, standing together in His love. 🌎🙌

Are we using religious language to justify self-centered lives? 🛑

It is a dangerous thing to defy God while claiming to follow Him. When we use our "faith" to insult others or pursue our own agendas, the refuge we think we have will eventually collapse. But there is a better way. Instead of being self-secured, we are called to be God-secured—humbly seeking His protection rather than our own power.

Do you ever feel like the harder you work to build "the good life," the more stressed you become?

It’s a goal many of us chase—to be "at ease and self-secured"—but in Zephaniah, that mindset is actually a warning. We spend so much energy trying to defend our own kingdoms with our own strength, but when we become the kings of our own little worlds, we lose the protection of the only true King.

The weight of "holding it all together" was never meant for your shoulders. There is danger seeking security apart from God, yet true refuge can be found.

How many of you tested your chair before you sat in it this morning? 🪑

Most of us didn't. We’ve come to trust it so naturally that it’s become second nature. But here is the challenge: Are there "false refuges" in your life that you’ve come to trust just as blindly?

Often, we develop "survival mechanisms" or ways to defend ourselves when we are young or going through hard times. We go to these securities all the time without even noticing they are there—and without realizing they are actually pulling us away from trusting God.

This week, let's be intentional. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you: "What am I trusting that isn't You?"
