It's ridiculous — and actually sinful — to try to win people to Christ by being like them. "If they see I'm normal. If they see I'm just like them. If they see I'm not weird." God killed His Son so that you and I might be radically different. Blending in isn't an evangelism strategy; it's surrender dressed up as outreach.

So ask it honestly. Do you love the things of the world? Are you separate from it? It's one thing to use the things of this world and another thing entirely to love them. Peter doesn't soften it: "But like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves in all your conduct." And Paul closes the loophole in 1 Thessalonians — God has not called us for impurity but in sanctification, and the one who rejects this is not rejecting man but the God who gives His Holy Spirit. Reject the call to holiness and you aren't rejecting a preacher. You're rejecting God.

What sin would you forsake immediately if you knew Christ was returning today? What duty would you finally perform if this were your last day? And underneath both — what obedience have you quietly reclassified as not urgent?

Delaying obedience is not neutrality. It's disobedience. We've simply given it a soft name that launders the sin right out of it. Procrastination is not a harmless quirk of temperament; it's rebellion borrowing the language of holy intention, disobedience disguised as prudence. At bottom it's presumption — to say "tomorrow" is to presume on what God never promised you.

Almost no one says "I will never repent." Plenty of men say "I'm not going to repent today." And it's especially damning because it usually follows conviction. The man knows. He feels the weight. He intends to obey. But intention deferred becomes disobedience confirmed, and James seals the verdict: to him it is sin. Present, abiding guilt. Light resisted does not fade.

Presuming on tomorrow isn't optimism. It's boasting — and God forbids it.

"Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth." Proverbs 27:1 is law aimed at presumption, and the reason is simple: tomorrow does not belong to you. Solomon's verb is obstetric — bring forth. A day is not a corridor you walk down. It conceives, it carries, and it delivers. Each morning is a womb sealed by God; each evening is a birth opened by His providence.

The older you get, the more you feel the arithmetic. A soul to be saved, a God to be reconciled to, a Christ to be closed with — and a few years to do it in, many of them already spent. There is no returning to them and no revision of accounts. Happy in Christ, happy forever. Lost, lost forever. Now is the accepted time.

"Tranquil and quiet" does not mean cowardly and hidden.

Paul tells Timothy to pray for those in authority so believers can lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity — and somewhere along the way we turned that into retreat. But a quiet life is one so engaged in the community, so occupied with honest work and faithful family building, that it gives outsiders nothing to accuse. In Titus, Paul hands a church the job of building a counterculture in Crete and then tells them to lead in good works — in their homes, in their churches, and in their communities. You cannot lead anything you refuse to be part of.

1 Timothy 5:8 is the sin line, not the target. The target is an inheritance for your children's children and a city better than you found it. So do we hunker in the bunker while society collapses, or do we build for a future we won't live to see?

What if God came to us? What if the Father sent His Son — took on flesh so that we could see the infinite in the finite? That is precisely what He has done.

And Jesus tells us what it means for us: "This is eternal life, that they may know You the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent." Eternal life is not merely endless existence. It is the knowledge of a Person. So the question is not whether you know about Him. Do you know this God?

Most people begin their theology with themselves — their needs, their experiences, their decisions, whatever they grew up with. It feels natural, and that's exactly the problem. What feels natural to fallen man is usually what sin has distorted most. To begin with yourself isn't just incomplete; it's dangerous, because it trains you to measure God by man rather than measuring man by God.

Ephesians won't allow it. If Romans is the purest and most systematic expression of the gospel, Ephesians is the most majestic. Romans builds the cathedral stone by stone; Ephesians pulls back the veil and shows you the glory inside. This letter doesn't merely explain salvation — it displays it. Not from the ground up, but from the throne shining down. Not first from time, but from eternity past.
