WHAT MOST PEOPLE GET WRONG ABOUT LOVE

Love and truth aren't enemies. They're friends. They go together. They're partners.

1 Corinthians 13:6 says, "Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth." Love isn't okay with injustice, and it's not okay with dishonesty either.

But honesty needs to be laced with love. So maybe we screen the truth first and ask: am I making a self-serving point, or am I trying to build this person up?

Love always protects. The word for "protects" is the same as the noun "roof." So love roofs.

Love provides shelter and safety. You are the roof over the person and over the relationship.

And love always trusts. When we don't know exactly why someone did or said something, love fills in the blanks believing the best in them.

Love always hopes too. It looks for the best in someone even at the times when that person can't do that for themselves.

So who hoped in you when you couldn't hope in yourself? And who needs that from you now? Maybe someone needs you to show them you believe in them.
