5 LWML Ladies and a Pastor went to Orphan Grain Train (OGT), Clemons, Iowa on Tuesday! We were able to bring over 20 bags and boxes to donate and then proceeded to get to work sorting, packing and boxing those and other donated items.
Clemons, Iowa is a few miles north of State Center and Highway 30. OGT's branch is located in the old Clemons Lutheran School and makes use of almost every room for gathering, sorting, packing and boxing donations that will be warehoused and then shipped out in the USA and around the world when needed.
It was a warm, sunny day and we all had a great time working together with other volunteers from around Iowa. Afterwards we shared lunch together before returning home. It was a wonderful day! Below is some information about OGT from their website.
Orphan Grain Train (OGT) is a Christian volunteer network that shares personal and material resources with needy people in America and around the world. It was started in Norfolk, NE in 1992 and has since spread to include 29 regional branch locations, like the one in Clemons, Iowa.
They are a RSO (Recognized Service Organization) of the LCMS and work with Lutheran Hour Ministries, LCMS World Mission, LCMS World Relief, and other Christian ministries to bring food, clothing and other humanitarian items to people in need in the United States and at least 69 other countries of the world.
OGT has been awarded 4 out of 4 stars (Highest rating) by Charity Navigator which indicates OGT adheres to good governance and other best practices that minimize the chance of unethical activities and consistently executes its mission in a fiscally responsible way. OGT received a 100% for Overall Score & Rating for ‘Financial’ and ‘Accountability & Transparency’.
Here is an amazing fact...97.72% of all donations go towards OGT’s mission, only 2.28% goes toward administrative and marketing costs!!
