There are Sundays when you wake up excited about church.

There are others when nobody can find their shoes, somebody is crying, somebody stayed up too late, you are exhausted, and staying home sounds wonderful.

Even as a pastor I fully understand.

But some of the most important things we do in life are not sustained by constant enthusiasm.

Marriage isn’t.

Parenting isn’t
Exercise isn’t.

Friendship isn’t
Neither is Christian community
Acts 2 describes Christians continuing together in the apostles’ teaching, fellowship, breaking of bread, and prayer. Notice the word: continuing.

Christian community is built through ordinary Sundays over a long period of time.

Sometimes you walk into church spiritually full.

Sometimes you walk in empty.

Sometimes you carry someone else.

Sometimes they carry you.

That is part of why Christianity was never designed as an individual project.

There will eventually come a season when your family encounters grief, illness, disappointment, confusion, or crisis.
And when that day comes, you will discover that the relationships built during ordinary Sundays become extraordinarily important.
