Jesus did not choose you out of this world so you could blend back into it. That is the hard, convicting truth at the heart of this week's message from John 15:18-25.

The world hates the light because the light exposes what lives in the dark. Jesus warned his disciples that if the world hated him first, his followers should expect the same. The question that cuts deep is this: if the world has never treated you like you do not belong to it, why not?

You are a city on a hill that cannot be hidden. Your righteousness, your holiness, your devotion to Christ cannot only exist inside these walls. The people God has placed around you need to see it. Some will believe. Some will hate you for it. But you do not get to choose how they respond. You only get to choose how brightly you shine.

A meal can make a family feel welcome. ❤️

Next week, Elmont will welcome two families through Family Promise, a ministry that helps families experiencing homelessness. We need volunteers to provide meals during their stay!

You don’t need training to bring a meal—anyone can help! Only those serving as hosts need to have completed Family Promise training.

Would you provide a meal? See the needs and sign up below:

Thank you for showing Christ’s love around the table!

What makes you different? Jesus answers that question in John 15:14-17 with a word that changes everything: friend.

Not a slave who just follows orders. A friend who is let in on the plan. Jesus chose you before you ever chose him. He revealed the Father's heart to you. He appointed you to go and bear fruit that lasts forever. And he commands you to love one another so deeply that the world has no choice but to take notice.

This Sunday, Pastor Chris unpacked what it truly means to be a friend of Jesus -- chosen, sent, and called to love in a way that turns heads and changes lives. As he put it, "The world is watching. They will not know that we are his disciples because of this building. They're going to know it by how we treat one another."

Come as you are. You might just find out you were already chosen.

That's what it means to be family...

What does it really mean to love one another? Not the surface-level "I'm fine" kind of love, but the kind that shows up at 2 a.m., listens to the hard stuff, and refuses to keep score.

This Sunday, Pastor Khris walked us through John 15:12-13, where Jesus gives us one commanding charge: love one another just as He loved us. Not as a suggestion. A command. And the measure is not how we want to be treated, it is the cross itself.

The love of God has already been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit (Romans 5:5). That means we have everything we need to go first, to pursue, to give, and to be the kind of family that actually knows each other's real struggles.

Who in your life needs that kind of love from you this week?
