☀️❤️ I Am Loved – Summer Challenge Reminder ❤️☀️

As summer continues, we wanted to gently remind everyone about Pastor Cathy’s “I Am Loved” Summer Challenge. There is still plenty of time to participate, and if you haven’t started yet, it’s never too late!

The challenge invites us to:

🔴 Share your encounters of love with Pastor Cathy as a testimony during this time of reflection.

🔴 Let it remind you of a truth that can be easy to forget: You are especially loved by God!

🔴 Use it as a conversation starter to share your faith and God’s love with others when opportunities arise.

Buttons are still available at the church for anyone who would like one. Carry it in your pocket, wear it on a shirt or bag, place it on your desk, or keep it somewhere visible as a daily reminder of God’s presence and love.

Sometimes the simplest reminders can have the greatest impact.

“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!” — 1 John 3:1

UPDATE: Good news! While we weren’t able to recover the video from Sunday’s service due to technical difficulties, an audio recording of Pastor Jared’s message was preserved. For those who missed worship or were unable to watch online, we continued our “Year with Jesus” journey by exploring Luke 14:15-24, the Parable of the Great Banquet.

Jesus tells the story of a host who prepares a great feast and invites many guests. When the time comes, however, the invited guests begin making excuses. One has purchased land. Another is focused on business. A third is occupied with family responsibilities.

What’s striking is that none of these excuses are inherently bad.

The guests aren’t choosing evil over good. They’re choosing good things over the best thing.

Property. Work. Family. All are gifts from God. Yet in the parable, these good gifts become distractions from the invitation itself.

The challenge Jesus places before us is deeply relevant today. We live in a world filled with competing voices demanding our attention. Every day brings another headline, controversy, crisis, notification, obligation, meeting, task, or distraction. We are busy people.

But perhaps busyness isn’t the real problem.

Maybe the deeper question is: What sits at the center of our lives?

What receives our attention, our devotion, and our deepest loyalty?

Jesus reminds us that the Kingdom of God is not simply a future destination we hope to reach someday. The Kingdom is God’s reign breaking into the present moment. It is experienced whenever forgiveness overcomes resentment, mercy overcomes judgment, generosity overcomes fear, and love overcomes hostility.

The invitation is not for someday.

The invitation is for now.

“Come, for everything is ready now.”

The good news of the parable is that when some refuse the invitation, the host does not give up. Instead, he sends his servants into the streets to invite the poor, the blind, the lame, and those society often overlooks.

Then comes one of the most beautiful lines in the story:

“There is still room.”

There is still room for the forgotten.

There is still room for the outsider.

There is still room for the distracted.

There is still room for the busy.

There is still room for those who have spent years choosing lesser things over greater things.

God’s grace is greater than our excuses.

As we continue our Year with Jesus, may we ask ourselves not simply whether we admire the Kingdom or believe in the Kingdom, but whether we are responding to the invitation Jesus places before us today.

The banquet is ready.

The invitation remains open.

Will we come?

When it rains it pours. Due to a technical issue with our live-stream cameras, there will be no recording of today’s service available. We got almost all the way through the service, and at the last minute the camera system malfunctioned and as of right now, we cannot retrieve the recording. We apologize (great sermon too!). We are working on the issue currently and hope to have the system up and running again for next week.

🙏 2026–2027 Annual Conference Appointments Are Fixed!

What a powerful moment as our bishop officially declared the appointments for the 2026–2027 conference year fixed! District superintendents stood, clergy responded, and together the body of Christ affirmed its call to serve.

From ministries of justice, compassion, helps, administration, teaching, and prayer — every assignment reflects God’s direction for this season. Lay leaders, certified lay speakers, licensed ministers, and ordained clergy all had a part in this sacred moment.

The bishop’s charge to us going forward: be all in and on the move — to multiply love, cultivate joy, and inspire hope.

To God be the glory! 🙌

Greetings from the Indiana United Methodist Conference! ❤️

Several members of Valparaiso First United Methodist Church are attending Annual Conference this week, joining United Methodists from across Indiana for worship, learning, fellowship, and discernment.

We were blessed to hear Bishop Tracy S. Malone’s opening message, which challenged us to reflect on a simple but powerful question: How is the love of Christ becoming more visible through us?

Bishop Malone reminded us that the future of the Church will not be sustained by maintaining institutions alone, but by spiritually mature disciples who are deeply rooted in Jesus Christ. As followers of Christ, we are called to abide in Him, bear fruit, and reflect His character in our communities.

She also emphasized that the future of the Church is not the responsibility of a few leaders gathered in a room. It belongs to every disciple who seeks to follow Jesus, every congregation striving to bear fruit, and every believer committed to sharing Christ’s love with others.

As we continue our time at Conference, we invite you to pray for all those gathered, for the work of the Church throughout Indiana, and for God’s guidance as we seek to faithfully live out our shared mission.
