RABBINICAL ALLIANCE OF AMERICA ADDRESSES LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL SECURITY CONCERNS AND CELEBRATES NEW LEADERSHIP AT ROSH CHODESH SIVAN CONFERENCE

BROOKLYN, NY — May 17, 2026 — The Rabbinical Alliance of America (RAA) / Igud HaRabbonim, a national rabbinic organization representing over 950 American rabbis, convened its monthly Rosh Chodesh Sivan Conference and Seudah today at Kahal Bnei Matisyahu in Brooklyn, New York.

The conference and festive meal were generously sponsored by RAA Presidium Chairman and Rabbi of Bnei Matisyahu HaRav Yaakov Klass, alongside his brother Mr. Arthur Klass and family, Liluy Nishmas their father, Reb Anshel Ben Reb Moshe Feivel, Z”L (Mr. Albert Klass, Z”L). In honor of his father’s enduring legacy and memory, Rabbi Klass delivered a profound and inspiring Torah discourse to the gathered assembly of rabbinic leaders and delegates.

Leadership Appointments and Tribute to the Founders of American Orthodoxy

A major highlight of the conference was the official announcement made by Rabbi Mendy Mirocznik, Executive Vice-President of the Rabbinical Alliance of America, appointing Rabbi Jay Levy, Rabbi of the Mill Basin Sephardic Congregation, as a newly appointed Vice-President of the RAA.

In announcing the appointment, Rabbi Mirocznik praised the new Vice-President's exceptional credentials, stating:

"Rabbi Jay Levy is a first-class Talmud Chacham, a true scholar, and a rising star within rabbinical circles. We are incredibly fortunate to have him join our leadership as a Vice-President. We look forward to working closely with him to build a strong, dynamic Rabbinical Alliance of America—one that will be even better abled and equipped to advocate for the Rabbinate, the Land of Israel, and all of Klal Yisroel."
Rabbi Mirocznik further offered a powerful tribute to the sponsor's father and the pioneering generation he represents, stressing that if Orthodox Jewry in America is flourishing today, it is due entirely to the generation of Rabbi Klass's father, whose unwavering commitment to Yiddishkeit, Torah, and Mitzvos refused to surrender religious values for greener pastures.

"The Mesiras Nefesh (self-sacrifice) of Reb Anshel, Z”L, and those like him, serves as the very foundation of what we call the frum communities of America today," Rabbi Mirocznik declared. "We owe this legendary generation an eternal debt of gratitude for holding down the fort. They made the path of a Torah Jew a proud and popular one to follow. Against all historical odds, this has resulted in the largest demographic growth within the North American Jewish community today—a true American success story born of courage, conviction, and vision."

Rabbinic Ordination Celebration

The convocation also celebrated the graduation and rabbinic ordination (Semicha) of two distinguished scholars from the Kollel Ayshel Avraham Zichron Yaakov Rabbinical Seminary. Rabbi Hershcel Baum and Rabbi Aaron Ceder were presented with their certificates of ordination. The presentation was presided over by:

• Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Serebryanski, Rosh Kollel of Ayshel Avraham Zichron Yaakov Rabbinical Seminary and Vice-President of the RAA.

• Rabbi Yaakov Klass, Rav HaKollel, Presidium Chairman of the RAA, and Torah Editor of The Jewish Press.

Addressing Anti-Israel Protests and Local Security

A significant and solemn portion of the conference was dedicated to serious deliberations regarding the rising tide of antisemitism globally and locally. The Presidium and membership engaged in a critical discussion regarding recent disruptive anti-Israel protests occurring across New York City, and specifically closer to home within the Flatbush-Midwood community.

Media reports have highlighted a disturbing escalation in these actions, noting that within a single six-day period, organized mobs targeted local houses of worship, including Park East Synagogue in Manhattan and, most recently, the Young Israel of Midwood on Ocean Avenue in Brooklyn. Media and eyewitness accounts from the Midwood demonstration detailed aggressive crowds marching through the heavily populated Orthodox Jewish neighborhood waving Hezbollah flags, displaying Hamas-linked target symbols, and chanting "Globalize the Intifada" and "Zionism will fall." The hostile demonstrations resulted in physical scuffles, the assault of local residents—including a young Jewish girl and an elderly veteran—and multiple arrests by the New York City Police Department (NYPD) for disorderly conduct and violence.

In light of these hostile demonstrations targeting the religious and residential heart of the community, the RAA issues an urgent call to local synagogues, yeshivas, and community members to exercise a heightened state of vigilance and diligence. The organization emphasizes the necessity of robust security partnerships to ensure the safety and peace of our neighborhoods.

A Call for Unity, Action, and Spiritual Strength

Moving forward, the Rabbinical Alliance of America issues a definitive call to action to the broader Jewish community. The RAA emphasizes that the community must refuse to remain silent, urging all people of conscience to be strong and completely unafraid in voicing their concerns against targeting Jewish neighborhoods and institutions.

Compounding this call, Rabbi Mirocznik added an essential spiritual and communal charge:

"As a community, we must embrace one another and treat each other with deep love, genuine compassion, and as true family. Now more than ever, we should actively engage in Torah, Mitzvos, and Gemiluth Chasadim (deeds of loving-kindness). It is in that collective merit that we pray the Almighty will have mercy on us, and it is through this spiritual and communal fortitude that we will ultimately overcome this current wave of antisemitism."

Following these vital community policy resolutions, Rabbi Mirocznik also reminded all members to continue completing their chosen sections of Gemara in preparation for the RAA's custom-mandated Chai Elul Annual Siyum HaShas.

Global Advocacy for Religious Freedom: The Fight Against European Bans

The RAA also turned its attention to grave infractions on religious liberties occurring across the Atlantic. Rabbi Yaakov Klass raised deep concerns regarding European assaults on fundamental Jewish practices, specifically highlighting the ongoing bans on ritual slaughter (Shechita) and the escalating legislative restrictions on circumcision (Brit Milah) in Belgium and other European jurisdictions.

In response to these developments:

1. Consular Outreach: Rabbi Yaakov Dovid Cohen announced that he will be actively contacting the relevant European consulates to demand formal meetings regarding these discriminatory policies.

2. Resolution Passed: The RAA body unanimously passed a resolution to draft and present a formal, urgent letter explicitly addressing these religious freedom violations. This document will be shared with the Conference of European Rabbis (CER) to form a unified global front.

"We cannot sit idly by while our communities face intimidation at home, and our most sacred religious traditions face legal existential threats abroad," stated the RAA leadership. "The Rabbinical Alliance of America stands resolute in defending Torah values, securing our local institutions, and advocating for the unalienable rights of Jews worldwide."

Rabbinical Alliance of America Observes 10th Yahrzeit of HaRav Gershon Tannenbaum, ZT’L, with a Vision of Hope, Healing, and Renewal

BROOKLYN, NY — The Rabbinical Alliance of America (RAA/Igud HaRabbonim), one of the nation’s premier Orthodox rabbinical organization, gathered on Monday evening, April 20, 2026 (3 Iyar 5786), to observe the tenth Yahrzeit of its legendary Director and Menahel, HaRav Gershon Tannenbaum, ZT’L. The event, held in conjunction with the Rosh Chodesh Iyar Seudah and Conference, was hosted at Maimonides Medical Center, a vital partner in the RAA’s sacred mission of community welfare.

This milestone anniversary carries the poignant theme of "Hope, Healing, Friendship, and Renewal," reflecting the enduring legacy of Rabbi Tannenbaum. For decades, Rabbi Tannenbaum served as the "voice of the voiceless," balancing his leadership at the RAA with his roles as the Rabbi of Congregation B’nai Israel of Linden Heights and a dedicated advocate for patients.

A Legacy of Leadership and Connection

The evening’s reflections highlighted Rabbi Tannenbaum’s multifaceted impact. Rabbi Yaakov Klass, Presidium Chairman of the RAA and Torah Editor of the Jewish Press spoke of the late leader's rare ability to blend administrative excellence with deep empathy. "He kept our feet on the ground while our heads were in the books. His memory continues to guide our Presidium in every decision we make," noted Rabbi Klass.

Rabbi Yehoshua Hecht, Presidium Member, added, "To know Rabbi Tannenbaum was to witness a tireless devotion to the dignity of every individual. He taught us that leadership isn't about power; it's about making sure no one feels alone in their struggle."

The personal impact of his mentorship was echoed by Mark Meyer Appel, President and Founder of the Bridge Multi-Cultural Center and a devoted student of Rabbi Tannenbaum.
“Rabbi Tannenbaum was more than a teacher; he was a moral compass who showed us that true Torah leadership requires reaching across every boundary to find common ground," stated Mark Meyer Appel. "He had a way of looking into your soul and seeing potential you hadn't yet discovered in yourself. He was my mentor and my friend, showing us that the heart of Torah is found in how we treat our neighbors and how we build bridges where others see only divides. His life was a testament to the fact that when we work together, we create a sanctuary of peace in a turbulent world."

An Evening of Medical Excellence and Community Partnership

The conference featured a keynote medical presentation by Dr. Eitan Dickman, Chair of Emergency Medicine at Maimonides, who discussed the hospital’s brand-new Standalone Pediatric Emergency Room.

Kenneth Gibbs, President and CEO of Maimonides Health, spoke to the deep-rooted and essential partnership between the medical center and the RAA.

"Maimonides is profoundly grateful for our enduring partnership with the Rabbinical Alliance of America," stated Kenneth Gibbs. "At Maimonides, we don't just value this relationship; we consider it a hallmark of our hospital’s identity and our commitment to the community. This collaboration allows us to provide care that is not only medically excellent but spiritually and culturally resonant. By working hand-in-hand with the RAA, we ensure that every patient feels seen, respected, and supported in the fullest sense. It is a partnership built on a shared mission of healing, and we are honored to continue this sacred work together."

Douglas Jablon, Executive Vice President of Community Relations, added, "Rabbi Tannenbaum was a fixture in these halls. He understood that healing is a partnership between the doctor, the patient, and the community."

Honoring New York’s Finest

The RAA Service Certificates were presented to members of the NYPD Community Affairs Bureau, Patrol Borough Brooklyn South, recognizing Chief Charles Minch, Lieutenant Ralph Postiglione, Detective Midelgie Roche, and Police Officer Matthew Pagano.

Joining the presentation were Chief Richie Taylor, Commanding Officer Community Affairs Bureau, Rabbi Yermiyahu Levy, Mill Basin Sephardic Congregation and NYPD Clergy Liaison and Rabbi David Heskiel, NYPD Clergy Liaison. Rabbi Yermiyahu Levy offered a poignant reflection: "By honoring these officers tonight, we fuel the cooperation Rabbi Tannenbaum built. He always said that when the community and the police speak with one heart, there is no obstacle we cannot overcome."

Looking Toward the Future

Rabbi Yehuda Blank, Vice-President of Professional Development, concluded the evening by emphasizing the RAA’s growth. "The foundation laid by Rabbi Tannenbaum allows us to support our rabbis as they navigate the complex needs of modern chaplainry and community service."

The partnership between the RAA and Maimonides continues to underscore a shared dedication to helping people at their most vulnerable stages with dignity, respect, and unwavering compassion.

Rabbinical Alliance of America Convenes in Monsey for Rosh Chodesh Shevat; condemns Mississippi Synagogue Arson and Raises Alarm on Daylight Savings Legislation

MONSEY, NY – January 22, 2026 — The Rabbinical Alliance of America (RAA)/Igud HaRabbonim, representing over 950 Orthodox rabbis across North America, convened a powerful and heavily attended Rosh Chodesh Shevat Conference and Seudah on Monday, January 19, 2026.

The gathering, held at Yeshivas Bris Avram in Monsey, was hosted by the Yeshiva’s Rosh Yeshiva and RAA member, Rabbi Aharon Mandel. The event served as a platform not only for Torah scholarship and administrative updates but for urgent responses to pressing national issues affecting the Jewish community.

Response to the Attack on Beth Israel in Jackson, Mississippi

Addressing the recent arson attack that devastated the historic Beth Israel Congregation in Jackson, Mississippi, RAA Presidium Member Rabbi Yehoshua S. Hecht delivered a stirring, response.

“We stand aghast at the darkness that sought to consume a sanctuary of light in Mississippi,” Rabbi Hecht stated. “But we know the teaching of the Rebbe: darkness is not chased away with sticks; it is chased away by lighting a candle. The arsonist used fire to destroy, but the Jewish people use the fire of Torah to warm and to illuminate. The physical sanctuary may have been damaged, but the spirit of Ahavas Yisrael (love of fellow Jew) and Bitachon (trust in G-d) cannot be singed. We call upon Jews everywhere to respond to this senseless hate by increasing in acts of goodness and kindness, proving that the light of Torah and Mitzvot is eternal and indestructible. We will rebuild, and the new light will be even greater than before.”

Urgent Concerns Regarding Daylight Savings Legislation

Rabbi Mendy Mirocznik, Executive Vice President of the RAA, utilized the forum to issue a stark warning regarding renewed legislative efforts to make Daylight Savings Time permanent (often referred to as the "Sunshine Protection Act").

“While the idea of permanent daylight sounds appealing to the secular world, it poses a severe threat to the religious liberty of the observant Jewish community,” Rabbi Mirocznik explained. “Permanent Daylight Savings Time would push sunrise to as late as 8:30 AM or 9:00 AM in many parts of the country during the winter months. Halacha (Jewish law) mandates that morning prayers, Shacharit, be recited after sunrise. This change would make it impossible for observant Jews to pray with a minyan and arrive at their places of employment on time. We urge legislators to consider this inadvertent but discriminatory impact on our daily prayers and religious life.”

Torah and Remembrance

The Rosh Chodesh Seudah was dedicated L’iluy Nishmas several distinguished figures, whose legacies were honored throughout the evening:

• HaChasid Reb Pinchas ben HaChasid Reb Zev Kehos Moshe Mandel, ZT”L, father of Rabbi Tzvi Mandel and grandfather of our host. He is remembered as the innovator who facilitated burial in Eretz Yisroel for Diaspora Jews.

• Ha’isha Hatznuah Chanah Bas Rav Yoshua Mordechai (Sperling), ZT”L, wife of Reb Pinchas Mandel.

• Ha’isha Hatznuah Sorah Malka Bas Habal Tzedakah Reb Chaim Tuvia (Sisselman) (daughter of the renown Torah philanthropist H. Jerome Sisselman), ZT”L, mother-in-law of Rabbi Tzvi Mandel.

Distinguished Speakers and Leadership
