GRANNIE ADVISE

After a few calls around the events of many Summer Solstice honoring and ceremonies, I feel the need to speak. High Holy rituals are going on in every spiritual location. Some are offering integrity and to enhance solutions to a planet and people in crisis. Some are not offering it for that reason, and I am hearing an abundance of ego and spiritual rip-offs happening in many communities. I am sending this Grannie message of caution. By now most of the old ones who actually had these skills to share are long gone. I assure you most of them would be disappointed in how the vision got translated or carried forward.
Last week someone offered me a professorship at a University to teach NATIVE AMERICAN SPIRITUAL STUDIES. I declined. First of all, every Tribe has their own traditions. AND I AM NOT A FULL-BLOOD, NOR DO I HAVE THE RIGHT TO SPEAK OUT FOR ALL NATIVE AMERICANS. I may have a degree in many a fine ceremony, but that does not make me the person who should tell everyone how to do it. I apprenticed at Black Elk's side for 28 years. I also at the same time was at the side of 4 major women in the healing world and traveling to the events that were meant to awaken and sustain the next generation. That overlapped into 40 years of understanding of old ways.
I remember a day when I said to the old man: I WANT TO BE A GOOD MEDICINE WOMAN. I spent years training and absorbing to that end. At some point, Ute Grandmother Bertha expresses that she sees most of us as shamans NOT MEDICINE MAN OR MEDICINE WOMAN. I 100% agree. Folks who are to become the Elders of the future, are serving the people and planet. In this case, she always discussed 7 years of service to the community before taking on any name of Spiritual mastership. The protocols for most practices included a great deal of education and dedication. IT IS NOT FAST FOOD SPIRITUALITY. It is not pretend nor is it a means to stay high and think you are enlightened. Spirit works with your energy and your Karma. Whatever you think you want to begin with will end up being a personal journey of authentic connections to source and self. If you have not taken care of your inner issues, they will bite you until you stop, drop, and pray.
I took Astrology for 4 years. It doesn’t make me an astrologist. I am good to remember I have a cancer rising and Aries somewhere. IT IS NOT MY MEDICINE. I studied Alchemical Healing with Nick Scully for over 20 years of travels. It did not make me Nicki. I traveled with loads of Elders and wise ones. I am thrilled some of it rubbed off, and I am keenly aware it does not make me some superhuman healer. I AM NOT A HEALER. I am a gatekeeper who will support you in finding YOUR OWN HEALING. No one else can ever do it for you. I am a master herbalist and have 15 pieces of paper saying I know s**t. If I can’t feed the children with that stuff, then I am seriously just trying to be a pretend humanitarian with cool clothes as my regalia. I am NOT GROWING CORN. If your Spiritual journey is not supporting a healthy, whole future for body, mind, and spirit, someone is taking you for a ride. I KNOW I HAVE BEEN ON THAT RIDE. IT HAS A HUGE PRICE TAG.
In the AMA way, they either medicate it, inject it, or cut it. In the Holistic way, we deal with the root cause of the dis-ease and bring it into Harmony. THE EGO WON’T DO THAT. The Medicine way or the Shamanic way is to manage life in a healthier manner. It is to support others who need you to simply show up. YES, WE HAVE LOADS OF PERFORMANCE ART….
Healing Arts performed with a flair. I have only seen major healing performed by the REAL folks in the basic homeland of earth, water, fire, and air. No one I ever worked with said.. WAHOO I JUST HEALED YOU… ok, so Brant would always brag that he healed my broken foot. YOU GUYS HE SUCKED ON MY DIRTY TOES. I put the cast back on and danced to the next gathering. He by no means fixed anything. And I was quite embarrassed as he expected me to walk away from a toe job as a totally healed woman. REALLY HOW GOOFY ARE YOU GUYS?
I once had my bestie pay some healer to fix me in the middle of cancer. I had no clue who she was, or what she did in her energy work. I got a long-distance call and was told to lay still for 30 minutes while she worked on me. She put on some music and 30 minutes later said my cancer was gone and I could stop chemo today…. SERIOUSLY?! I am sorry but that was a waste of $175… note not once in my 50-plus years of working with folks have I set some outrageous price tag. Most of the time, what I have said to folks, is whatever you make an hour, you can pay me for an hour of my time. It is all about energy and the swaps of juice we offer each other. Some perform with a great flair, and others, apparently think put on a CD, sip tea, and then tell someone who is dying to just buck up, you got it all covered I WAS APPALLED. I would never do that to anyone.
I believe we all do the inner work quite well when we know that someone cares and will show up for us. One time when I was in cancer treatment Ms. Imani showed up. She sat in my bathtub washed my hair and gave me love. THAT WAS WAY BETTER THAN SOME GOOFY WAHOO… she simply showed up and loved on me. Plenty healing, and no show for the world,
I get that it is all a search for God, self, happiness, and peace. HOWEVER if you just ceremony hop, none of it sticks. People get hurt out there with some of the groovy, froggy things, and magical teas. GHOST SICKNESS IS REAL. It happens when anyone takes too much of what the natural world is a transformer or a change master. Too many mushrooms, pe**te, wachuma, or magical teas to shortcut the work at hand. Too many experimental things folks sell you… SELL YOU as a real healing. Some of it will linger forever. yes, X, stays in your spine for a lifetime. I never did it, but I can say that spinal arthritis from the pressure I put on my body all now also be forever. Pain is wearing and boring and not productive. Just because you had a big wahoo last weekend, does not mean that 50 years later you won’t be paying for it. PLEASE BE MINDFUL OF YOUR INTENT, YOUR SUPPORT, AND WHAT THE LONG-TERM PURPOSE IS.
I honor that you are all on a journey. I certainly am moving mine. And I am always within a boundary of integrity and authenticity. I am not sure how to manage the next germination that wants it all right now. I can only tell you that you can’t grow up and faster than you simply grow up. You aren’t an Elder till you have paid dues and developed skills to help others The bottom line is no matter how many skills I have, I am still putting my un**es on the same way you do, and I am still working through my own s**t before I can manage others. so before you deem yourself some big ass healer… maybe you should take some time to let the medicine find you with gentle and wise lessons.
Grannies humble opinion and sharing with respect. The children need you to be wise, not just buzzed.
