30,000-foot view with God.
As youngsters in middle school, high school, or even college, we tend to have a 10-foot view of life.
The 10-foot view focuses on what is happening in our lives now, within the past few hours or the past day or two, rather than on what God has provided and His plan for your future.
When we look at life from that 10-foot view, if things are not going great in life, it can be nothing but negativity in our souls. If things ARE going great, that will eventually change, and you will face significant challenges. We may be involved in sports, which can create substantial disappointment in life if we aren’t as good as we thought we were, or if we are not being treated fairly by those who coach us. In 10 or 20 years, the sports or other interests you have now will likely seem insignificant, as more important things will be happening in your life, probably without you realizing it.
From the 30,000-foot view, we can see some of the things that God has in store for you, what He can do in your life, and how He can put you in a place of peace in your life despite the turmoil that is going on around you.
While you may worry about what people think of you today or tomorrow, it's essential to realize that those issues don’t really matter. What does matter is what God has in store for you and what God thinks of you. Why does He challenge you not to focus on yourself too much? He is trying to prepare you for your future as a Christian. For many, the most self-centered times of our lives happen when we are young. If you don’t count on God and defeat arrogance, you will go through life with increasing darkness and find yourself totally miserable. What happens in your life in the short term will someday pale in comparison to your future challenges. The past will be a distant memory.
The answer: Study the Word of God and grow in grace every day.
“For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future’” (Jeremiah 29:11). God did not create you to leave you to live a mediocre life. His plans for you were formed from the beginning of time. You can step right into that promise with confidence, knowing that He knows what He’s doing.
Isaiah 43:18-19 says, "Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing something new! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? [Do you not see it?] I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland."
