"Heavenly Father, Teach us to rest in you with the same lightness that our children rest in our arms. They still and soothe the heart when they are in our presence and cry in despair in our absence. Help us to depend on you like this, for there is no Father who takes care of us like you. You never sleep, you never get tired, you never stop welcoming us in your loving arms. In the name of your Son we pray. Amen!" ojeanfrancesco

The Western Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church ratified the disaffiliation agreements for 298 churches during a special session in Erie, PA on June 14, 2023.

The body overwhelmingly affirmed all the disaffiliations before joining together in worship, for the last time for many.

Bishop Cynthia Moore-Koikoi led the body in litanies of confession and forgiveness before urging everyone to leave the special session with a spirit of peace while blessing one other. Those remaining in the UMC and those departing were asked to turn to one another and speak in unison the following blessing: “May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you always. Amen.”

Quote of the Week:

“Love isn’t a state of perfect caring. It is an active noun like struggle. To love someone is to strive to accept that person exactly the way he or she is, right here and now. When I say it’s you I like, I’m talking about that part of you that knows that life is far more than anything you can ever see or hear or touch. That deep part of you that allows you to stand for those things without which humankind cannot survive. Love that conquers hate, peace that rises triumphant over war, and justice that proves more powerful than greed.”

Fred, commonly know as ‘Mister Rogers’, was an American television host, author, producer, and Presbyterian minister. He was the creator, showrunner, and host of the preschool television series Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, which ran from 1968 to 2001.

I paint him here opening a door for the viewer. Welcoming them in just as they are.
