In recognition of Lou Gehrig Day, ballparks across the country pause to honor a legend and shine a light on a cause that still needs our help. It is the 6th annual Lou Gehrig Day a powerful reminder that baseball and ALS are forever connected.

Lou Gehrig faced ALS with courage that inspired the world, and his fight, sparked a movement that continues today.

Lou Gehrig Day is not just a tribute, it is a chance to take action to raise awareness and further our goal of finding a cure for ALS.

As part of our monthly series celebrating America's 250th, we're honoring America's heroes as we prepare for Memorial Day.

This Friday, 5/22, Friends of Kensico Cemetery will host its 20th Annual Veterans Remembrance Ceremony, open to the public, continuing a tradition of patriotic partnership that spans more than 137 years.

Through collaboration with local and regional organizations, Kensico remains dedicated to honoring veterans and preserving their stories.
Pictured here is Kensico's Veterans Memorial, which has stood beside the administration building for the past 20 years — a lasting tribute to all who served.

Kensico Cemetery had a spotlight in the ‘s latest history feature by Judith Mitchell. It mentions how Kensico’s grounds (which you can explore by signing up for one of our evening walking tours), along with many other cemeteries, reflect the rural cemetery movement in the 1800’s that gave Americans their first parks.

We’re excited and grateful to be part of this story and this interesting chapter of US History. Check it out or register for one of our tours via the links in the comments📖

We're marking America's 250th birthday by celebrating a different theme each month. April belongs to American Humor.
Danny Kaye (1911–1987)
Born David Daniel Kaminsky in Brooklyn, Danny Kaye built an extraordinary career in American entertainment — rapid-fire s**t singing, physical comedy, impersonation, classical music, and improvisation.

He got his start entertaining in the Catskill Mountains, then went on to star in 17 films — including The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, White Christmas, and The Court Jester, still considered one of the greatest comedies ever made. His TV show ran from 1963–1967, collecting four Emmys and a Peabody along the way.

Off-screen, he was UNICEF's first ambassador-at-large and accepted the Nobel Peace Prize on the organization's behalf. He was also a scratch chef, a minor league baseball team owner, and a licensed pilot.

Danny Kaye rests here at Kensico Cemetery
