Who Was “THE PROPHET?”
It is clear that during the time of Jesus,(pbuh) the Jews were waiting for 3 distinct persons, the Messiah, Elijah, and THE PROPHET to come prophesied in Deuteronomy 18:18-19
18. I will raise up for them a prophet like you FROM AMONG THIER BRETHREN; and I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him.
19. And whoever will not give heed to my words which he shall speak IN MY NAME, I myself will require it of him.
Isaiah 28:9-14
9. "Whom will he teach knowledge, and to whom will he explain the message? Those who are weaned from the milk, those taken from the breast?
10. For it is precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little, there a little."
11. Nay, BUT BY MEN OF STRANGE LIPS AND AN ALIEN TONGUE the LORD will speak to this people,
12. to whom he has said, "This is rest; give rest to the weary; and this is repose"; yet they would not hear.
13. Therefore the word of the LORD will be to them precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little, there a little; that they may go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.
14. Therefore hear the word of the LORD, you scoffers, who rule this people in Jerusalem!
John 1: 19-25.
19. And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, "Who are you?"
20. He confessed, he did not deny, but confessed, "I am not the Christ."
21. And they asked him, "What then? Are you Elijah?" He said, "I am not." "Are you THE PROPHET?” And he answered, "No."
22. They said to him then, "Who are you? Let us have an answer for those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?"
23. He said, "I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, `Make straight the way of the Lord,' as the prophet Isaiah said."
24. Now they had been sent from the Pharisees.
25. They asked him, "Then why are you baptizing, if you are neither the Christ, nor Elijah, nor THE PROPHET?”
Matthew 21: 42-43
42. Jesus said to them, "Have you never read in the scriptures: `The very stone which the builders rejected has become the head of the corner; this was the Lord's doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes'?
43. Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and GIVEN TO A NATION producing the fruits of it."
John 16: 7-8, 12-14
7. Nevertheless I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, THE COMFORTER will not come to you; but if I go, I will send HIM to you.
8. And when HE comes, HE will convince the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment:
12. "I have yet many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.
13. When the Spirit of truth comes, HE will guide you into all the truth; for HE will not speak on his own authority, but whatever HE hears HE will speak, and HE will declare to you the things that are to come.
14. HE will glorify me, for HE will take what is mine and declare it to you.
Surah Al Khaf 110
110. Say: “I am but a man like yourselves, but the inspiration has come to me, that your God is one God: whoever expects to meet his Lord, let him work righteousness, and in the worship of his Lord, admit no one as partner,” Surah Al Khaf 18:110
Surah Muhammad 1-2
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.
1. Those who reject Allah and hinder men from the path of Allah—their deeds will Allah render astray (from their mark).
2. But those who believe and work deeds of righteousness, and believe in the revelation sent down to Muhammad — for it is truth from their Lord —He will remove from them their ills and improve their condition.
