This is Christine again, I am doing some research on the history of the Cemetery. I came across one of the people laid to rest here. Here is the news story from last year.

As we celebrate influential individuals throughout Black History Month in the Mohawk Valley, we pay tribute to Ellen Elizabeth Lavender, affectionately known as Mother Lavender.

Hey All,

This is Rev. Christine Williams the Rector of Grace Church Utica. I am on the board for New Forest Cemetery. I am working with the board to help grow our online presence.

As you know, New Forest Cemetery holds a significant place in the history upholding the diversity of the city of Utica.

The board has been transitioning and we are trying to maintain the grounds, preserve and share our history, and revitalize our presence in the community.

Happy Spring! The Cemetery gate is now open ( Office will open May 1st). We have a new family of geese that have moved in, & enjoying the pond😎. We welcome all volunteers, & am looking for office help.
