TOPIC: HAVE YOU ENCOUNTERED JESUS?

MEMORISE
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” - (John 1:1)

READ: Acts 9:1-6 (KJV)

1 And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest,

2 And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem.

3 And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven:

4 And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?

5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.

6 And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.

MESSAGE

One can easily assume that everyone who attends church regularly or functions in a department within a church has encountered Jesus. However, in my experience, I have realised that many people are working hard in the Lord's vineyard but haven't had an encounter with Him. They know a lot about Him, but they don't know Him.

Paul thought he knew God until the day he had an encounter with Jesus Christ. When you truly meet Jesus, you will become a completely new person. Before Paul met Jesus, he persecuted believers. However, when he met Him, his story changed. In (1 Timothy 1:13-16), he spoke about his horrible past as a blasphemer, a persecutor, and an injurious person, and how he obtained mercy from God. In Christ, he became a Chief Apostle (2 Corinthians 11:5) and fulfilled his destiny (2 Timothy 4:6-7).

Peter was just another fisherman from Galilee before he met Jesus. However, when he met Jesus, he was given a glorious destiny (Luke 5:10). Even when he failed and denied Jesus, his future was still secure because of his encounter with Jesus. When a man meets Jesus, his failures and weaknesses become part of his success story because God works all things together for his good (Romans 8:28).

Isaiah thought he knew God until he had an encounter in Isaiah 6 that changed his life. When he saw the Lord in His glory, he fell on his face and cried, "...Woe is me! for I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts" (Isaiah 6:5). After meeting the Lord, Isaiah was willing to go wherever the Lord sent Him. When you truly meet Jesus, all your excuses will be burnt away like chaff.

Beloved, if you genuinely want to meet Jesus, make it mandatory for yourself to study God's word every day. Revelation 19:13 says that He is the Word of God. When you study the word of God, you are fellowshipping with Jesus Christ. The more of God's word you study, the closer you will get to Him. It will be difficult at first because the devil will try to stop you, but as you keep at it, you will discover that you are being transformed because you are getting to know the Son of God for yourself.

PRAYER POINT
Lord Jesus, please reveal yourself to me in Your word. I want to know You more and follow You for the rest of my life.

HYMN 2 - AMAZING GRACE

1. Amazing grace! how sweet the sound! That saved a wretch like me; I once was lost, but now am found; Was blind, but now I see.

2. 'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear And grace my fears relieved; How precious did that grace appear The hour I first believed!

3. Through many dangers, toils,
and snares, I have already come; 'Tis grace that brought me safe thus far, And grace will lead me home.

4. Yes, when this heart and flesh shall fail, And mortal life shall cease, I shall possess within the vail, A life of joy and peace.

TOPIC: GOD HATES LONELINESS

MEMORISE
“God setteth the solitary in families: he bringeth out those which are bound with chains: but the rebellious dwell in a dry land.” - (Psalm 68:6)

READ: Isaiah 34:16-17 (KJV)

16 Seek ye out of the book of the Lord, and read: no one of these shall fail, none shall want her mate: for my mouth it hath commanded, and his spirit it hath gathered them.

17 And he hath cast the lot for them, and his hand hath divided it unto them by line: they shall possess it for ever, from generation to generation shall they dwell therein.

MESSAGE

In Matthew 6:9, Jesus taught us to start our prayers with Our Father. God is a "family man'. He loves the concept of family and hates loneliness. In Genesis 2:18, He said that it is not good that a man should be alone. If you're of marriageable age and can't seem to find the right companion to get married to, or if there are forces preventing you from getting married, I pray that the tide will turn this year, in Jesus' name.

During one of our programmes several years ago, God's word came that the mother of one of the sisters in the congregation was diabolically preventing her from getting married. God said that the mother would be buried within seven days if she continued to prevent her daughter from getting married. The following day, a lady came with her mother to my office. The mother was furious, and she said, "You stupid prophets brainwash our girls. Imagine telling my daughter that I am responsible for her not getting married." I replied, "Me? Sister, did I say that? What God said is that the mother of a sister in the congregation was preventing her from getting married. Did I mention your name?" Then I turned to the mother, "Mama, don't mind her. Nobody mentioned her name." The mother then asked her daughter to leave my office because she wanted to speak with me alone. As her daughter went out, she turned to me, "Pastor, is it true that the mother of the fellow concerned will die?" I said, "I'm not talking about you, but what God said will come to pass. Before the week ends, whoever it is will be buried." The woman began to stammer, "I'm not asking her not to marry, but who is going to take care of me after she's married?" I said, "That's simple; I can make her and her husband promise to take good care of you." The lady, who was almost 40 years old and had not had any suitors, got married within six months.

In today's Bible reading, God promised that nobody will lack their mate. If you are feeling lonely, I pray that God will restore the broken relationships in your life or send the right companions your way. For someone reading this today, God will deal with anybody who says that you will not get married. He will settle you maritally in due time, in Jesus' name. God's word will never fail; keep trusting in Him.

PRAYER POINT
Father, please always send the right companions to me, in Jesus’ name.

HYMN 6 - I AM SO GLAD THAT OUR FATHER IN HEAVEN

1. I am so glad that our Father in heaven Tells of His love in the book He has given; Wonderful things in the Bible I see; this is the dearest, that Jesus loves me.

CHORUS
I am so glad that Jesus loves me, Jesus loves me, Jesus loves me, I am so glad that Jesus loves me, Jesus loves even me.

2. Jesus loves me and I know I love Him; Love brought Him down my lost soul to redeem; Yes, it was love made Him die on the tree: oh, I am certain that Jesus loves me.

3. In this assurance I find sweetest rest, trusting in Jesus I know I am blest; Satan dismayed from my soul doth now flee When I just tell him that Jesus loves me.

4. Oh, if there's only one song I can sing, When in His beauty I see the great King, This shall my song in eternity be, "Oh, what a wonder that Jesus Loves me!"

5. If one should ask of me, how can I tell? Glory to Jesus, I know very well! God's Holy Spirit with mine doth agree, constantly witnessing-Jesus loves me.

TOPIC: FOR YOUR GOOD

MEMORISE
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” - (Romans 8:28)

READ: Psalm 112:1-10 (KJV)

1 Praise ye the Lord. Blessed is the man that feareth the Lord, that delighteth greatly in his commandments.

2 His seed shall be mighty upon earth: the generation of the upright shall be blessed.

3 Wealth and riches shall be in his house: and his righteousness endureth for ever.

4 Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness: he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.

5 A good man sheweth favour, and lendeth: he will guide his affairs with discretion.

6 Surely he shall not be moved for ever: the righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance.

7 He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: his heart is fixed, trusting in the Lord.

8 His heart is established, he shall not be afraid, until he see his desire upon his enemies.

9 He hath dispersed, he hath given to the poor; his righteousness endureth for ever; his horn shall be exalted with honour.

10 The wicked shall see it, and be grieved; he shall gnash with his teeth, and melt away: the desire of the wicked shall perish.

MESSAGE

In Jeremiah 1:5, God said to Jeremiah, "...Before I formed thee in the belly, I knew thee..." You did not come to the world by accident; hence, God will not let the events of your life unfold by accident. As long as you are a child of God, everything that happens to you, whether you consider them good or bad, will work together for your good, as we see in today's memory verse.

When you really consider all that God did to bring you close to Himself, you will know that He is great. Believe me, the mere fact that you are still alive today means that God has not finished with you yet. Before you were born, He saw all that you would go through in order to fulfil your destiny. Therefore, be at rest because God is in control. His thoughts towards you are of good and not of evil to bring you to an expected end (Jeremiah 29:11).

Not long after I joined the Redeemed Christian Church of God, God made it clear to me that I was fulfilling His purpose for my life. He told me very clearly that although I was an academic, I was to follow a spiritual leader who didn't have formal education. At one time, the same person who invited me to the church advised me to leave. After I organised the first Christ the Redeemer's Congress which was a huge success, he told me, "Now, we have found your ministry. You can organise it, and I will finance it; we don't need this church." However, I just smiled and refused his offer. There were people who made my life very difficult because I decided to stay in the church. There were several opportunities to leave, but God was merciful, and He showed me that I was properly positioned for everything to work together for my good.

Beloved, all things will work together for your good when you love God and stay in His purpose. However, you can't disobey Him and expect that things will turn out for your good. You can't leave the place God has asked you to stay or stay where God has asked you to leave and enjoy what God has prepared for you. If you are living in sin, turn to God today and repent. No matter how terrible your past is, once you turn to Him, He will make everything work together for your good.

KEY POINT
All things will work together for your good when you embrace God's purpose for your life.

They are weak, but He is strong.

CHORUS
Yes, Jesus loves me,

Heaven's gate to open wide,

Let His little child come in.

3. Jesus loves me, loves me still,
Tho' I'm very weak and ill,
From His shining throne on

If I love Him when I die,
He will take me home on high.

TOPIC: EVEN IN THE FIRE
MEMORISE
Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him. - Job 13:15 (KJV)

READ: Daniel 3:9-25 (KJV)
9 They spake and said to the king Nebuchadnezzar, O king, live for ever.

10 Thou, O king, hast made a decree, that every man that shall hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, shall fall down and worship the golden image:

11 And whoso falleth not down and worshippeth, that he should be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.

12 There are certain Jews whom thou hast set over the affairs of the province of Babylon, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego; these men, O king, have not regarded thee: they serve not thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.

13 Then Nebuchadnezzar in his rage and fury commanded to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Then they brought these men before the king.

14 Nebuchadnezzar spake and said unto them, Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, do not ye serve my gods, nor worship the golden image which I have set up?

15 Now if ye be ready that at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of musick, ye fall down and worship the image which I have made; well: but if ye worship not, ye shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is that God that shall deliver you out of my hands?

16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter.

17 If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king.

18 But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.

19 Then was Nebuchadnezzar full of fury, and the form of his visage was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego: therefore he spake, and commanded that they should heat the furnace one seven times more than it was wont to be heated.

20 And he commanded the most mighty men that were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace.

21 Then these men were bound in their coats, their hosen, and their hats, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.

22 Therefore because the king’s commandment was urgent, and the furnace exceeding hot, the flames of the fire slew those men that took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.

23 And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.

24 Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonished, and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king.

25 He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.
MESSAGE
Sometime ago, a lady in one of the RCCG parishes was sacked unjustly from her workplace. Shortly after that, she embarked on a journey, and highway robbers stopped her and took her car away. Days later, while she was trying to cook, her kitchen caught fire. All these occurrences happened within a week. Interestingly, the following Sunday was Thanksgiving Sunday, and she danced and rejoiced more than everyone else.

Everybody stared at her because she was the last person they expected to be dancing like that. However, she told them, “I lost my job, not my salvation. They stole my car, but they didn’t steal my life. My kitchen caught fire, but I am not going to hell. Whatever the devil has tried, I am still here.” That is the testimony of someone who had an intimate relationship with God before challenges came, and He never lets such people down (Jeremiah 17:7-8).

If anyone tells you that you will never face challenges because you are a Christian, that fellow is not telling you the whole truth. Challenges will come, but your response to them will be determined by how much you love God. If a challenge pushes you away from God, then your love is small. Some people confess their undying love for God, singing that they will always follow Him, whether through storms or fires. However, when challenges come, they forget their confession and turn away from Him.

If telling the truth about a situation at work will cost you your job, will you lie to save your job or tell the truth and bear the consequences? You may claim now that you will always tell the truth, but what will really determine what you will do in that situation is your love for God now. Your love for Him must be built from today if you will remain standing in the face of challenges.

In Daniel 3, the three Hebrew boys were confronted with the option to either bow to an idol or be thrown into fire. They chose fire, and that shows real love for God. That love was not cultivated on the day the king gave the command for them to bow; they had been cultivating it long before then.

Beloved, build your love for Christ now. Study your Bible diligently, pray without ceasing, and keep fellowshipping with other Christians so that when the day of adversity comes, your love for God will keep you standing.
REFLECTION Can you truly say right now that you love God with all your heart?

HYMN: WHEN WE WALK WITH THE LORD
1. When we walk with the Lord,
In the light of His word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will
He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.

REFRAIN
Trust and obey!
For there’s no other way
To be happy in Jesus,
But to trust and obey.

2. But we never can prove
The delights of His love,
Until all on the altar we lay,
For the favour He shows
And the joy He bestows
Are for them who will trust and obey.

3. Then in fellowship sweet
We will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way,
What He says we will do,
Where He sends we will go,
Never fear, only trust and obey.

READ: Isaiah 35:1-10
1 The wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad for them; and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose.

2 It shall blossom abundantly, and rejoice even with joy and singing: the glory of Lebanon shall be given unto it, the excellency of Carmel and Sharon, they shall see the glory of the Lord, and the excellency of our God.

3 Strengthen ye the weak hands, and confirm the feeble knees.

4 Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompence; he will come and save you.

5 Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped.

6 Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert.

7 And the parched ground shall become a pool, and the thirsty land springs of water: in the habitation of dragons, where each lay, shall be grass with reeds and rushes.

8 And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein.

9 No lion shall be there, nor any ravenous beast shall go up thereon, it shall not be found there; but the redeemed shall walk there:

10 And the ransomed of the Lord shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

TOPIC: HARDEN NOT YOUR HEART 1

MEMORISE
“Harden not your heart, as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness.” - (Psalm 95:8)

READ: Hebrews 3:7-11 (KJV)

7 Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice,

8 Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness:

9 When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years.

10 Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways.

11 So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.)

MESSAGE

God talks to His people; the only problem is that many do not listen to Him. Psalm 95:6-8 says that if you want to hear His voice, you should not harden your heart. If God has been talking to you and you have been disobedient, He will keep quiet, and you won’t hear Him again.

You need to hear God so that He can guide you. The primary way to hear from God and be guided by Him is to study your Bible. However, what should you do when the situation you need guidance about is not specifically addressed by the Bible? Whenever you need to make decisions on such matters, you need to hear from God directly.

There are times when you can clearly see what God wants you to do in the Scriptures. However, you still need to hear from Him on how to go about what He wants you to do. For example, when Paul wanted to go to Asia in Acts 16:6-7, the Spirit of God forbade him. You might ask, “How can the Spirit of God stop Paul from going to preach since it is written in Matthew 28:19 that we should go into the world and teach every nation?”

Some years ago, I wanted to hold a crusade in Benin, a state capital in Southern Nigeria. We had prepared everything for the crusade, but to my surprise, when I went to ask God about it, He said that we should go to Ede, a town in South-West Nigeria instead. I told Him that we had just concluded a crusade in Ilesha, another town in the same state as Ede and that the inhabitants of Ede would have most likely been in attendance. However, since God is my Commander-in-chief, I obeyed Him.

During the crusade in Ede, the king was in attendance, and when he got on the stage to speak, he announced that he would be gifting the church with whatever quantity of land we desired. We initially decided to ask for 50 acres of land, however, when I went back to hear from God, He told me to ask for 500 hectares, and I obeyed. Today, that portion of land is where Redeemer’s University and The Redeemed Christian School of Missions are situated. If I had hardened my heart, I wouldn’t have gone to Ede, and I wouldn’t have received the blessing.

Beloved, when you are dealing with God, don’t harden your heart. Listen to Him with an open mind, be committed to obeying Him, and He will speak to you.

KEY POINT
If your heart is hardened, God will not speak to you.

MEMORISE
“With the ancient is wisdom; and in length of days understanding.” - (Job 12:12)

READ: 1 Kings 12:1-19 (KJV)

1 And Rehoboam went to Shechem: for all Israel were come to Shechem to make him king.

2 And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who was yet in Egypt, heard of it, (for he was fled from the presence of king Solomon, and Jeroboam dwelt in Egypt;)

3 That they sent and called him. And Jeroboam and all the congregation of Israel came, and spake unto Rehoboam, saying,

4 Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore make thou the grievous service of thy father, and his heavy yoke which he put upon us, lighter, and we will serve thee.

5 And he said unto them, Depart yet for three days, then come again to me. And the people departed.

6 And king Rehoboam consulted with the old men, that stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, and said, How do ye advise that I may answer this people?

7 And they spake unto him, saying, If thou wilt be a servant unto this people this day, and wilt serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be thy servants for ever.

8 But he forsook the counsel of the old men, which they had given him, and consulted with the young men that were grown up with him, and which stood before him:

9 And he said unto them, What counsel give ye that we may answer this people, who have spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke which thy father did put upon us lighter?

10 And the young men that were grown up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou speak unto this people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it lighter unto us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little finger shall be thicker than my father's loins.

11 And now whereas my father did lade you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke: my father hath chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.

12 So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king had appointed, saying, Come to me again the third day.

13 And the king answered the people roughly, and forsook the old men's counsel that they gave him;

14 And spake to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, and I will add to your yoke: my father also chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.

15 Wherefore the king hearkened not unto the people; for the cause was from the Lord, that he might perform his saying, which the Lord spake by Ahijah the Shilonite unto Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

16 So when all Israel saw that the king hearkened not unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse: to your tents, O Israel: now see to thine own house, David. So Israel departed unto their tents.

17 But as for the children of Israel which dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.

18 Then king Rehoboam sent Adoram, who was over the tribute; and all Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. Therefore king Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.

19 So Israel rebelled against the house of David unto this day.

MESSAGE

Elderly people carry valuable gems of wisdom. No matter how educated you are, some lessons cannot be learnt in classrooms; they are only taught in the ‘classroom of life’ and are learned by experience. Even though I have a PhD, I have learnt to defer to the wisdom of the elders from time to time. This is why you will always hear me say, “The elders have a saying,” because there are valuable things that I have learnt from the elders that all of my formal education did not give me.

I was privileged to sit at the feet of my Father in the Lord, Pa Josiah Akindayomi. Every week, I would visit him to ask questions, and he would teach me valuable lessons. I was also privileged to learn from Pa S.G Elton. Every two weeks, I would travel to llesha to sit at his feet. He taught me many things, even though I didn’t agree with some of them initially because I felt that they were incorrect. However, as I grew older, I began to realise that he was correct. One of the things he taught me was that I should always remember that I am not God, irrespective of the level of the anointing that I operate in. He also taught me that God does whatever He pleases, and all that I have to do is to take my burdens to Him in prayer and go to bed. This is why, if you ask those close to me, they will tell you that I have no difficulty sleeping. No matter how big the problem is, once I have prayed, I go to sleep.

Beloved, even if your parents and the elders around you are not as educated or sophisticated as you are, listen to them. Whatever things you disagree with or that seem hard for you to understand, keep them in your memory regardless. One day, when you are wiser, you will likely refer to them. Do not joke with the moments you have to spend with elders, whether they are related to you or not. Tell them to teach you some of the things they know and do. There are some natural remedies to sicknesses that died with some elders because the generation after them did not learn about them when they had the opportunity. Some important principles of life have also been lost in this manner.

Learn all you can from the elderly ones, especially the Christian elders that you still have around you, before they go to be with the Lord.

KEY POINT
Spend quality time with the elders around you; there is a lot of wisdom to gain from them.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR
John 9 - 10

HYMNAL
HYMN 28 - GUIDE ME, O THOU GREAT JEHOVAH

1. Guide me, 0 Thou Great Jehovah Pilgrim through this barren land; I am weak, but Thou art mighty,
Hold me with Thy powerful
hand: Bread of heaven! Bread of heaven! Feed me now and evermore (2ce)

2. Open Thou the crystal fountain,
Whence the healing stream
doth flow: Let the fiery, cloudy pillar Lead me all my journey
through: Song deliverer! Song deliverer! Be Thou still my strength and shield (2ce).

3. If I tread the verge of Jordan,
Bid my anxious fears subside: Bear me through the swelling torrent, Land me safe on Canaan's side: Songs of praises! Songs of praises! I will ever give to Thee (2ce).

4. Saviour, come! We long to see thee, long to dwell with thee above and to know in full communion, all the sweetness of Thy love. Come, Lord Jesus! Come, Lord Jesus! Take thy waiting people home (2ce)
