Pastor Brian Wonn is planning to continue preaching through the Gospel of Mark with a sermon from Mark 6:53-56 to consider the crowds that flocked to Jesus for healing of their physical needs as an inducement for us to be prepared to address the overwhelming needs of people today with both active compassion and focus upon the greatest need. Pastor Brian Wonn is planning to continue preaching through the Gospel of Mark with a sermon from Mark 6:45-52 to consider the event when Jesus walked on the Sea of Galilee out to His disciples on a windy night. This passage, which draws upon Old Testament accounts of God's presence and power, will challenge us to consider who Jesus is and our response to Him. The story makes clear that faithful discipleship is costly, while also revealing through the lives of Herod and Herodias the greater cost of persisting in sin. Pastor Brian Wonn is planning to continue preaching through the Gospel of Mark with a sermon from Mark 6:1-6 to explore the unbelief of the people in the hometown of Jesus when confronted by His teaching to consider some of the reasons behind the rejection of Scriptural truth and the life of faith today. This will lead us to also consider the call for the church to remain steadfast. We also plan to observe The Lord's Supper. This post is for the next three Sundays. First Baptist Church of Urbana, located at 401 N. Main Street, will meet for worship this Sunday, July 5, at 10:30 AM. Pastor Brian Wonn is planning to continue a sermon series of preaching through the Gospel of Mark. We plan to look at Mark 5:18-20 to consider both the desire to be with Jesus by the man of the tombs who had bee set free of demon possession, and the mission given to the man by Jesus to go home to his own people to tell them what the Lord had done for him and the mercy the Lord had shown him. We also plan to welcome new members and share in the Lord's Supper as part of the worship service. On July 12 we will have Jordan Couch, one of the elders of the Englewood Church of Grace and Truth preaching. Then, on July 19, we will have Rick Miesse, one of our members, preaching from Ephesians 5:25-27 with a sermon titled, "My Dream Church." His sermon will address different aspects of a biblical church. Nursery and children's classes will be available for children through the sixth grade. First Baptist Church of Urbana, located at 401 N. Main Street, will meet for worship this Sunday, June 28, at 10:30 AM. Pastor Brian Wonn is planning to continue a sermon series of preaching through the Gospel of Mark. We plan to look at Mark 5:1-17 to consider when Jesus freed the man of the tombs who had been possessed by a legion of demons and the response of the townspeople to his deliverance. This passage will remind us that every person is dependent upon the grace of Jesus to be freed from the bo***ge of their sinful nature. This passage will also remind us that sinful humanity, without the grace of God, will choose the ways of the fallen world; rather than willingly submit to the Lordship of Christ. We will also have a service of baptism as part of the worship service. Nursery and children's classes will be available for children through the sixth grade. Pastor Brian Wonn is planning to continue a sermon series of preaching through the Gospel of Mark. We plan to look at Mark 4:35-41 to consider when Jesus calmed the fierce storm that was causing waves to crash over the boat and causing great fear for His disciples. We will consider this testing of the faith of the disciples and the awe inducing display of the Lord's sovereignty that led the disciples to ask, "Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey Him?"
