“God Will Provide"
Scripture: Genesis 22:1-14

If you think this series has some stories to wrestle with, you are not alone. God tells Abraham to take his long -awaited son, Isaac and go to the land Moriah to sacrifice him on one of the mountains.
What?
This just can’t be. None of us can even entertain this request without fear and trembling. But the story is right there in the scriptures to struggle with. As a parent, we cannot fathom such a request, especially from God.

Abraham cuts the wood, takes some servants and his young son, putting the wood and knife on his son’s back and sets out. The boy questions, we have everything but the sacrifice. Dad, where is the sacrifice?

Hear the words of Abraham, “God himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering. Abraham speaks a statement of faith that God will provide. Yet, when they get there Isaac is placed on the altar, knife held high over the child.

Horrifying.

So many questions.

So much anguish.

How much do we trust God to provide when it means we sacrifice the most precious gifts of God?
What do we need to believe God for his provision?
What an incredible test.

Then we remember, God did not withhold his own Son, to save us…. He provided the lamb of God for us all. As God provides the ram, God provides the Lamb.

Word of God speak.
May they pour down like rain causing my eyes to see, you majesty. Word of God speak.

When there are no words, Word of God Speak.

Today we celebrate Juneteenth—a day of remembrance, freedom, hope, and perseverance.

As followers of Christ, we give thanks for the God-given dignity and worth of every person. Juneteenth reminds us that freedom is precious, justice matters, and God's love extends to all people.

Scripture tells us, “For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters; only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for self-indulgence, but through love become slaves to one another.” (Galatians 5:13)

May this day inspire us to seek justice, love our neighbors, and continue building communities marked by grace, unity, and hope.

Happy Juneteenth from Quest Church.

“God Hears Our Cry"
Scripture: Genesis 21:8-21

In our text this week, Ishmael and Isaac are playing together, when Sarah, tells Abraham, Hagar and Ishmael must go. Imagine how Abraham must of felt. But God tells Abraham to do as Sara has said. So Hagar and Ishmael are sent into the wilderness. When the little bit of rations are gone, Hagar cries out to God, please don’t let me watch my child die. It is then that an angel answers when the boy cries. God promises to provide offers food and water for the child and Hagar. God’s promises to make a great nation from Ishmael. There will be heirs of Abraham, as many as the stars. This is a particularly hard story, we want to make sense of it. How often in our lives so things just not make sense and we struggle? Like Hagar and Ishmael, there are those all around us, who feel cast away, lonely, and forgotten. Life can seem so unfair and hard when tough things happen and we really try to make sense of all that transpires. God hears the cries. God provides even when we don’t understand how everything can possibly work out. Let us ponder the story and place ourselves before God as His plan is greater than anything we anticipate or imagine.
