As disciples, the members of our congregation are active participants through missions and service to others, both locally and around the world. We are very active in our mission work for the Greater Urbana Area Food Bank, our local schools and other recipients in our community and in the Frederick County area. We offer adult and children's Sunday school classes, followed by a traditional worship lead by Pastor Sandi Phillips. We have a Lenten Bible study class that meets on Monday mornings, a men's Bible study that meets on Saturday mornings, as well as a ladies Bible study that meets on the first Friday of each month. Our United Methodist Women's group meets on the last Tuesday evening of each month, and hosts an annual yard sale, craft show and a bazaar in Urbana. As a part of the Urbana community, Wesley Chapel participates in the annual Fireman's Carnival at the Urbana VFD, making our deliciously famous funnel cakes! Members of our congregation have always been active in the Urbana VFD, and we have gained a member or two because of our mutual association.

"Go and make disciples of all nations..."
In Matthew 28, Jesus didn't hand the disciples a dry theology textbook on the mountain.
He gave them a promise of companionship:
"I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
As the weekend approaches, whatever "nations" or difficult spaces you have to navigate, you aren't sent there alone.

On Sunday, we sang Freely, Freely:
"He said, 'Freely, freely you have received, freely, freely give.'"
It followed a powerful prayer where we confessed how easy it is to focus on ourselves and wander through our days. If you’re feeling caught up in the busy "me-centered" rush of the week, take a breath. You are forgiven, at peace, and empowered to give grace freely to someone else today.

Slowing and Sensing...
May you slow and sense the landscape around you,
To hear the waves and watch for the tide,
To feel the breath of the warm breeze on your face,
To hear the wind alive high in the trees above,
To taste the salt of the sea on your lips,
To feel the water from the stream run through your fingers
May you slow and sense unity with the landscape around you.

"Out of chaos, God creates."
That was the big takeaway from Sunday's sermon.
Whether it’s the legal and administrative details of church business at Annual Conference or the messy details of your own family or workplace, God is completely unruffled by the chaos. He isn't panicked by your messy spaces. He's using them as a laboratory to do something new.

Morning Blessing
May this morning rise
like a loving guardian,
placing warmth on your shoulders
and clarity in your steps.
May you feel accompanied, as though
an unseen presence walks just
half a pace beside you, steady and calm.
May your choices be guided by love, and
your path lit by confidence and certain truths.
And may you move through the day
with the ease of someone who knows
they do not walk alone.

May the grace of the night’s stillness be mine
May the grace of the moon’s guidance be mine
May the grace of heaven’s vastness be mine
To renew my soul in sleep
To enlighten my dreams in the night
To open my spirit to eternity
Until the angels of light awaken me
Until the morning angels awaken me.

On Sunday, we prayed Rev. Tara Bulger's words:
"Loving God, open our hearts and minds
to what you would say to us this day."
It’s easy to listen to the news, our calendars, or our anxieties.
Today, let's intentionally change the channel.
Take sixty seconds right now to sit in silence and say,
"Speak, Lord, your servant is listening."

We came through a big week with the business of the Annual Conference, and on Sunday we dove into Genesis 1. Before the world was organized, the Spirit of God was brooding over the waters like a hen hovering over her eggs, waiting for life to hatch. If your Monday feels formless or chaotic, take heart: the Ruach (the Holy Spirit) is hovering over your life right now, waiting to bring forth something beautiful.

Good morning! ☕️

Ever tried to explain the Trinity?? 🥪🤖

If you find this theological "math" a little confusing, you are not alone. This morning is Trinity Sunday, and we are getting a little help from "St. Patrick" (—and a special guest appearance by Bonnie—) to look at how human analogies always seem to fall a bit short when it comes to God.

But beyond the big theological words, today is really about a beautiful promise. As we continue our series, The Sustained Breath, we will look at "The Hovering Presence"—the comforting truth that the same Spirit who hovered over the chaos of creation is the very same Spirit walking with us through the ordinary (and sometimes chaotic) days of our lives.

We will also hear a report from our Laity regarding the work and business of Annual Conference.

Come join us this morning as we laugh, worship, and lean into that presence together!

I worried a lot. Will the garden grow, will the rivers
flow in the right direction, will the earth turn
as it was taught, and if not how shall
I correct it?

Was I right, was I wrong, will I be forgiven,
can I do better?

Will I ever be able to sing, even the sparrows
can do it and I am, well,
hopeless.

Is my eyesight fading or am I just imagining it,
am I going to get rheumatism,
lockjaw, dementia?

Finally I saw that worrying had come to nothing.
And I gave it up. And took my old body
and went out into the morning,
and sang.
