“God sees what is behind the door.”

By Pastor Jade Tolbird.

There are times in our lives when we receive a warning whether it be by the spirit of God or the man of God in our lives. This warning consists of a call to consider our ways and contemplate what direction we are heading in. Especially in terms of our spiritual wellbeing. The truth of the journey we all are walking is that bad decisions can lead to sin. What started out as just an act with good intentions can lead to a door that leads us into sin we never saw coming.

Scripture instructs us that we must consider where we are heading.

Proverbs 14:15 — “The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.”

Ephesians 5:15 — “See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise”

I’m sure we can all look back on things that we never meant to lead into sin. Things that started out as butterflies ended up in moral failure. Situations that seemed like the right move but only brought confusion to your life. This is just the reality of our fallen human nature. How then can we refrain from ending up in these circumstances?

We must not move on our own accord but instead according to the word of God.

Matthew 4:4
“But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”

Psalm 119:9 — “Wherewithal shall a young man
cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.”

Psalm 119:105
“Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”

This was Cain’s Dilemma. His offering was of the fruit of the field. He viewed it as a good sacrifice. So much so that when God rejected his hard work it made him hang his head low in disappointment. (Genesis 4:5 “….his countenance fell.”)

Though he worshipped God, it was how he wanted to worship. God at this moment made it clear what he was wanting. He even went as far to correct and encourage Cain that he too could be respected in God’s eyes.

Genesis 4:6-7
6 And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?
7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted?…”

This then shows us the heart of Cain. Instead of accepting God’s correction, he rebelled. In Cain’s eyes what he gave was good enough. So tells the age old tale of man refusing to listen to God’s call. It went much deeper than a fruit offering, God saw Cain’s intentions. He saw a rebellious streak in Cain. God saw it was leading him to a doorway of murder.

God warned Cain “7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
8 And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.”

Judgement then occurred because correction was not accepted. Don’t get angry when God corrects you. Though you may not see what is wrong with your actions remember, He knows what lies behind the door. Thank God for correction, His correction can save us from judgement. His guidance can keep us from opening the door to sin.
