Today we remember and honor those who gave their lives for the United States. Thank you to the Town of Upton and the Upton VFW for the meaningful ceremony honoring Memorial Day. Pastor Emily was privileged in giving the Benediction for this ceremony, which you can read for your own reflection here:

God of liberation and justice
hear our prayers for all who strive for peace,
and all who yearn for fairness.

Help us, as we remember the cost of war today,
to work for a better tomorrow; and as we honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice, may we put our faith in your future.

May our memorials reinvigorate our resolve to build a world beyond war and violence, creating a beloved community that transcends all limits.

We invoke the courage of our loved ones whose lives were taken by war, not to valorize violence, but to hold ourselves to a standard to build a world worthy of their sacrifice, where our children can grow and learn without fear.

Bless us, O God of many names, who dedicate our powers today to the making of peace in the world; in their memory, and for the sake of love and equity.

Let us go with the light who guides us on our way, to walk the path of the Lord. May we go forth and live in ways so all of God’s beloved children may thrive.

May you, the God of Encouragement, our constant companion, lead us along paths of solidarity and hope, and give us the joy of being united in perfect love. Let it be so, Amen.

Interested in helping United Parish revitalize and rededicate our memorial plants and Church St lawn? In partnership with The Estuary Grief Support Group and the United Methodist Foundation, we are planting and installing a low maintenance, native plant, memorial garden alongside the building on Church St. This garden is in loving memory of all our loved ones, and special attention has been made to incorporate and preserve previously donated memorial plants. Join us on Saturday May 23 beginning at 9 am to dig holes, plant flowers and bushes, and provide moral support! We will paint stones to decorate the garden as well. Bagels and coffee will be provided.
