Saint Nicholas Sanctuary This church is part of the Aquarian Catholic Spiritual Community and Independent Sacramental Movement. We are esoteric sacramental Christians.

Saint Nicholas Sanctuary is part of the Aquarian Catholic Spiritual Community and broader Independent Sacramental Movement. We are a fully inclusive church and welcome all of God's children to all of our churches services. We are not Roman Catholic nor are we affiliated with the Roman Catholic Church in anyway. We are a group of esoteric sacramental Christians who come together to explore all that the Christian faith has to offer. We focus on the more mystical side of Christianity though we do not enforce any dogma. We do hold Mass and administer all seven of the traditional Catholic sacraments. Our goal at Saint Nicholas Independent Catholic Church is to foster a sense of Divine unity. We are all God's children and thus we strive to embrace all who earnestly seek after God. We fully invite everyone to join us for any of our services of which we have several. For more information on the Aquarian Catholic Spiritual Community or if you are interested in our vocations program please visit the ACSC website at www.aquariancatholicspiritualcommunity.net

Today's readings for the Solemnity of the Ascension of Our Lord is as follows;

1st Reading: Acts 1:1-11

In the first book,a Theophilus, I dealt with all that Jesus did and taught

until the day he was taken up, after giving instructions through the holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen.

He presented himself alive to them by many proofs after he had suffered, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God.

While meeting with them, he enjoined them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for “the promise of the Father about which you have heard me speak;

for John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the holy Spirit.”

The Ascension of Jesus.

When they had gathered together they asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?”

He answered them, “It is not for you to know the times or seasons that the Father has established by his own authority.

But you will receive power when the holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

When he had said this, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him from their sight.h

While they were looking intently at the sky as he was going, suddenly two men dressed in white garments stood beside them.They said, “Men of Galilee, why are you standing there looking at the sky? This Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven will return in the same way as you have seen him going into heaven

2nd Reading: Ephesians 1:17-23

that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation resulting in knowledge of him.

May the eyes of your hearts be enlightened, that you may know what is the hope that belongs to his call, what are the riches of glory in his inheritance among the holy ones

and what is the surpassing greatness of his power for us who believe, in accord with the exercise of his great might, which he worked in Christ, raising him from the dead and seating him at his right hand in the heavens, far above every principality, authority, power, and dominion, and every name that is named not only in this age but also in the one to come.

And he put all things beneath his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of the one who fills all things in every way.

Gospel Reading: Mark 16:15-20

He said to them, “Go into the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every creature.

Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved; whoever does not believe will be condemned.

These signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will drive out demons, they will speak new languages.

They will pick up serpents [with their hands], and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not harm them. They will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover."

The Ascension of Jesus.

So then the Lord Jesus, after he spoke to them, was taken up into heaven and took his seat at the right hand of God.

But they went forth and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the word through accompanying signs.

Short Night Prayer
A Night Prayer from St. Alphonsus Liguori

Jesus Christ, my God, I adore you and I thank you for the many favors you have bestowed on me this day.

I offer you my sleep and all the moments of this night, and I pray that you preserve me from sin. Therefore, I place myself in your most sacred side, and under the mantle of our Blessed Lady, my Mother. May the holy Angels assist me and keep me in peace, and may your blessing be upon me. Amen.

Danish philosopher, theologian and poet Søren Aabye Kierkegaard was born on May 5, 1813. He is often considered the father of existentialism, though he did not coin the term. Kierkegaard retained a strong belief in God, while other existentialists like Friedrich Nietzsche and Jean Paul Sartre became atheists.

Kierkegaard argued that faith is not a decision based on evidence that, say, certain beliefs about God are true or a certain person is worthy of love. No such evidence could ever be enough to completely justify the kind of total commitment involved in true religious faith. Faith involves making that commitment anyway. In his words:

“If I am capable of grasping God objectively, I do not believe, but precisely because I cannot do this I must believe. If I wish to preserve myself in faith I must constantly be intent upon holding fast the objective uncertainty so as to remain out upon the deep, over seventy thousand fathoms of water, still preserving my faith.”

Søren Kierkegaard thought that to have faith is at the same time to have doubt. So, for example, for one to truly have faith in God, one would also have to doubt one’s beliefs about God; the doubt is the rational part of a person's thought involved in weighing evidence, without which the faith would have no real substance.
