🎙️ Calling teaching artists in Western Massachusetts!

Straight Ahead Ministries, in partnership with the Massachusetts DYS Arts Initiative, is building music studio opportunities for justice-involved young people in Springfield and Westfield.

We’re looking for experienced professionals in:

🎚️ Audio engineering
🎹 Music production
✍🏽 Songwriting and lyricism

This is more than teaching music. It’s an opportunity to help young people develop their voice, strengthen their craft, build confidence, and explore pathways for their future.

Some gifts mean more than words can say. As part of his vocational training, John has been working in our Worcester office alongside our office manager, Debby. At our staff meeting today, John presented Debby with a special gift he had handcrafted just for her. A simple, heartfelt reminder of the relationships at the heart of this work. ❤

We're grateful for each beautiful piece woven together here - the teamwork, reentry opportunities, maker's space community partnership, vocational training, mentorship...the list goes on! Mostly we're grateful for the opportunity to see John develop his leadership, skills and strengths. We're proud of you, John!

Something powerful happens when people come together around a shared purpose.

This weekend, Executive Director Eugene Schneeberg joined Nevada Director Kathleen Hill, the incredible Dr. Shirley Plantin, Executive Director of the Miami-Dade Community Relations Board and Chief Executive Consultant for U-Turn Consulting, along with our dedicated Nevada staff and volunteers, to invest in the lives of young people and strengthen the work happening across the region.

There was some great energy in the room as everyone brought their unique gifts, experiences, and perspectives - and together, we created something far greater than any one individual could accomplish alone. That's the beauty of this ministry: relationships, collaboration, and a shared commitment to seeing every young person discover hope, purpose, and a brighter future.

We're so grateful for this team and excited to see what God continues to do through people who say "yes" to serving together.

The more we explore, the more we discover about ourselves. And today we got a sweet opportunity to try something new. Thanks to a local beekeeper, our youth got to step into the world of beekeeping - uncapping honeycomb and harvesting honey. Fascinating! What are you discovering this summer? "Do you know a safe place I can go when I get out of lockup?"

Years ago, when Thomas asked us that question, we searched for a place where he could find safety, support, and a fresh start. We couldn't find one.

Not long after, Thomas was tragically killed on the street.

That heartbreaking loss changed everything.

Thanks to God's incredible love and the support of friends like you, we created the kind of place we wished had existed—a community where young people leaving incarceration could find hope, healing, and people who would walk alongside them.
