Dear Fire protection advocates: GOT BIG BUCKS 2 SPEND ON ROAD IMPROVEMENTs...!!! Q: How much should we spend modernizing all our "backbone" dirt roads in Anza Valley...? To do so... It would probably mean that our property tax obligation(s) would increase substantially via the issuing of a new "assessment fee" that would, in-affect, triple our local tax/fee costs associated with our properties; Otherwise, we'd need to lobby the State for inclusion on the "STIP" for funding for Anza Road Improvements (its a 5 year process with no guarantee of funding); i live in Anza because i DONT WANT THESE IMPROVEMENTS, we actually like our dirt roads (a) cuz you have to drive slow on them; (b) there are no traffic hassles; and (c) there are few to no car/truck accidents. Most importantly, when my dog gets out of my yard, (d) i don't worry that he's going to get hit by a car...! Anzoids' prefer our "country road" network (especially when it would costs so much to pave over all our dirt roads) Given all the recent wildfires in CA, the USA and Canada, Anza remains intact, with few residential structures lost. Despite our road constraints, CALfire has done an amazing job in managing our local forests and open space areas using "prescribed burns" and "back burn" strategies. Further, CALFire - working with other federal agencies - have installed an affective networks of "fire break roads" from where they can access and manage a fire by setting back fires at night when the wind dies down That's why our local roads remain unpaved.... Orange County we are not.
