Wednesday is field trip day at Tufts in Talloires 2026, and three of our courses are heading in three different directions! 🌍

Our Emerging Global Health Crisis students travel to Geneva for a day at the United Nations Palais des Nations and the International Committee of the Red Cross Museum, the institutions at the heart of global humanitarian response.

Our Roman Gaul students go the other way, south to Vienne, walking among temples, amphitheaters, and ruins of one of ancient Gaul’s great Roman cities.

Our Art and Landscape in the Alps students also head to Geneva, this time to CERN, where the biggest questions in modern physics are being asked.

Three classrooms, three corners of the region, one unforgettable program.

One of our favorite Tufts in Talloires traditions is la petite pause, a little break in the afternoon to slow down and enjoy where we are. Today that meant setting up outside in the sunshine with paintbrushes, watercolors, and each other. No rush, no agenda, just a beautiful afternoon at the Priory! 🎨☀️🇫🇷

Did you know? Carrefour, the second-largest supermarket chain in the world, opened its very first store right here in Annecy in 1960. Yesterday, the Sociology of Food students went back to where it all started to conduct their first market ethnography, led by Professor Freeden Blume Oeur. Fieldnotes in hand, just observing how people shop, what they buy, and what it all says about French food culture! 🇫🇷 🧀

Today, May 8, is Victory in Europe Day. It is the day celebrating the formal acceptance by the Allies of World War II of N**i Germany’s unconditional surrender of its armed forces on Tuesday, 8 May 1945; it marked the official surrender of all German military operations. At the ceremony in Talloires, they called out all the names of the fallen soldiers, “mort pour la France,” and laid a special wreath at the tomb of Roger Astier, a local teacher who was departed in January 1944. The ceremony concludes with the Marseillaise sung by the local children and the Chorale de Talloires. 🎶
