Aglio e Olio is a short, sharp hardcore punk EP by the Beastie Boys, originally released on November 13, 1995, through Grand Royal. Clocking in at just over ten minutes across eight songs, the record stands apart from the group’s better-known hip-hop catalog by returning directly to the fast, raw punk sound that shaped their early years.

The EP emerged during the period between Ill Communication and Hello Nasty, when the band had been writing brief hardcore songs that did not fit the direction of their next full-length album. Rather than fold them into a broader studio project, the Beastie Boys released them as a compact standalone statement. The title, Italian for “garlic and oil,” reflects the EP’s minimalist spirit: simple ingredients, delivered quickly and without excess.

Released in 1993, Houdini is the fifth studio album by the American rock band Melvins. Direct Hits is a greatest-hits collection by American rock band The Killers, released in November 2013 by Island Records. Arriving roughly a decade after the band’s breakthrough, the album gathers standout singles from their first four studio albums—Hot Fuss, Sam’s Town, Day & Age, and Battle Born—while adding two new songs, “Shot at the Night” and “Just Another Girl.”

The compilation traces The Killers’ evolution from the neon-lit indie rock of “Mr. Brightside,” “Somebody Told Me,” and “Smile Like You Mean It” to the expansive, heartland-influenced drama of “When You Were Young,” “Read My Mind,” and “A Dustland Fairytale.” Later tracks such as “Human,” “Spaceman,” “Runaways,” and “Miss Atomic Bomb” show the band widening its sound with dance-rock textures, cinematic production, and arena-sized choruses.
