Pastor Terry was able to come out Saturday to do some work. Sadly, I tend to leave my phone on the table unless I'm using it, so I didn't know until 2:30 what he was doing, so I was not able to help. But the wood wall is up along with a lot of trim. He preaches and he's a skilled carpenter, like another figure in Christian theology.

We've considered staining the wood in grey to match the grey in the ceiling. But we also really like how it looks like this. Let us know what you think!

Pastor Terry went above and beyond this week! He took it upon himself to paint the south wall and to start putting up the last of the wall. He stopped to see what we thought. Next steps are to finish putting up the wood, stain it, finish it, and trim around it. Future steps are kitchen cabinets, flooring, and trim.

We're excited to create this community space. If you don't mind some construction mess, and that it's not finished, the space is available now. And it's further along than it was last summer for Memorial Day and the funeral.

One other exciting photo from Brenda. For a long time we've had a lit cross on the church that didn't work. Some local benefactors funded its replacement with an LED cross. Brenda happened to drive by at night and got a photo. Don't worry, we don't have ground-mounted floodlights on the church. Those are her headlights.

Let there be light! We shared a photo of the light and the state of its wiring over the pulpit a few weeks ago. It didn't take long to fix: new wires strung through the chain, reconnecting, and screwing the fixture back onto the ceiling (which took the longest). We put an LED bulb into the fixture, so hopefully it will be a long time until we change a bulb again. I'm always terrified I'll drop one of these glass diffusers whenever I change a bulb, so I'm glad our pastor took care of it this time!

We're also planning to cover the location where our old stovepipe entered the chimney, but for now the insulation is properly groomed. Fixing up the sanctuary is next on our list after we finish the back, but we're focusing. (Bare electrical wires were a worthwhile distraction.)

On Saturday, September 12 at 8:00 am we will have a work day at the church. The goals are to finish the work on the decks and to paint and otherwise finish the south wall. Once we finish the wall, it will be time to talk kitchen, flooring, and trim work. We're getting close!

If you see Brenda, tell her what a great job she did shampooing the carpet! I had forgotten about it, and noticed right away because of how clean it smells in there.

I've been going there 20 years and it was never done, and the carpet is older than that. All those years of road dust from our unpaved road and all the human traffic (and former mouse residents) built up quite a bit of sludge. Shampooing the carpet in a building with no running water is a very ambitious task!

This is a photo she shared with me:

As we've been working on our own church, we find ourselves looking at work on other rural churches. A music teacher bought this church in Binford, ND and is restoring it. I loved this story!

The church, which dates back to 1885, had sat vacant and vulnerable before Anderson stepped in.
