We are aware many still remain without power; therefore, the Highland Neighborhood Community Lighthouse located at The Highland Center, 520 Olive Street, will continue to serve as a cooling site tomorrow, Wednesday, July 8th from 8am - 4pm. Here you can:

As of 7 p.m. Monday, the Highland "Community Lighthouse" will be open Tuesday, July 7, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for cooling off, charging devices, and Internet access.

The Community Lighthouse is housed at the Highland Center, 520 Olive Street, Shreveport, LA 71104, and hosted in partnership with St. Francis Episcopal Church for the Highlands.

Currently, power is out at the facility, but the solar-powered back-up battery system is working to provide emergency assistance to the public. Regular programs will be closed until the full building's power is restored.

As damage and power outages are assessed, North Louisiana Interfaith will continue to provide updates and work with partners to open more Lighthouse locations as needed.

Our "Community Lighthouse" for cooling off, charging devices, and Internet access will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow, Tuesday, at least.

Update: Full building power is restored, too!

Cold out there again today, but at least we dodged the full-on freeze. If the weather turns rough and the power or water goes out, remember the Highland Center is a Community Lighthouse. That means solar panels, backup batteries, backup water, and volunteer teams ready to help us all stay safe. Many thanks to our North LA Interfaith and Caddo Parish partners for making this possible.

Plus-- even when the Community Lighthouse isn't "activated," guests are welcome to stay warm and find help navigating resources during regular business hours in our library.

Taste of Interfaith, last Sunday, was a powerful time where 156 leaders from 40 different institutions gathered with public officials for what Co-chair Rabbi David Laor taught us was known as Tikun Olam or repairing the world.
He stated, "Tikun Olam is not ONLY a ritual or a prayer—it is expressed in ACTIONS, and how we treat others, how we build communities, and how we respond to injustice. It calls us not to passively ask why suffering exists, but to actively correct injustice and bring healing."

14 new institutions were part of an impactful ceremony to pledge to be part of working TOGETHER to build the strong communities we have dreamt of. It's time that our dreams become the reality we are blessed to live each day.
