Normally, sometime on Saturday I would be making sure that I have everything ready and my worship notebook was complete. In that notebook I include the full service for Sunday (in large print), the following week's Scripture to give to appropriate lector, announcements, my offering (including amount I promised God to give to Noisy bucket for Lent), and any notes or reminders to get or give updates.
Socially distancing requires that we not share space right now. It does not mean that we can afford to lose our sense of unity and common purpose. We are still the church, the Body of Christ. We still have the same goals -- to transform our environments with the truth and love of Jesus Christ. If it looks like we will be unable to meet for Easter, we will celebrate Easter and all it means after we are able to gather again. As the Bishop said, it is somewhat exactly what we do each and every Sunday.
Meantime, what can we do today to be the Body of Christ? First -- Do No Harm. Be careful around other people. Keep a bubble of space around yourself, but engage people. We all still need a few kind words and loving gestures, So smile and talk and love -- from 6 feet away. Second -- stay in touch with the more vulnerable among us. The phone is an excellent tool -- use it and let your words convey what you cannot express with a hug. Third -- don't stop praying. Prayer is powerful. And right now we all have more time to pray and we certainly have much to pray for.
If you would like to help me, I need a volunteer to organize a phone brigade. I would like to be sure that each one is contacted by phone every few days. Please email or call me if you would be able to take this on.
I will get more out to you soon!
I miss our common worship; I miss our fellowship; I miss you all.
But we are not defeated. We are more than conquerors. Not because we are so good, nor because we are so strong; but only because God has us in the palm of his hand and has promised to live in this world through us. Covid-19 is not stronger than the cross Jesus endured and conquered. Lift up your head and walk tall. God is right there with you.
God bless you.
