Join the Heartland Conference WISE for Mental Health Network on Thursday, September 3 at 7:00 PM on Zoom for a special conversation with Dr. Farrell-Higgins, a clinical psychologist with decades of experience in trauma, PTSD, and mental health care.

Dr. Farrell-Higgins spent 33 years serving veterans through the VA, including 20 years as Chief of an Inpatient Stress Disorder Treatment Program. His career has included clinical care, supervision and training, and consultation with the National Center for PTSD. Since retiring from the VA in 2020, he has continued his work through private practice, serving individuals, couples, and families.

Together, we’ll have an opportunity to learn from Dr. Farrell-Higgins’ experience and consider how a deeper understanding of trauma and mental health can help us build communities of greater compassion, understanding, and belonging.

Interested in helping at the Agape Bread Warehouse? We are in need of volunteers to help with our open times for both the public and group pickup times. The job involves greeting and directing clients or group pickup teams to sign in on the appropriate paper. During open for public times, we ask that the volunteers remove and stack the empty trays from the staging area where clients are shopping.

🙏🏾 God,

We intercede for those whose lives have been shattered by violence.

For those grieving the loss of loved ones, wrap them in Your arms of compassion.

For those living in fear, be their refuge and stronghold. Prince of Peace, begin Your work in us.

Too often we harbor anger, resentment, and pride. Teach us the way of humility, the way of listening, the way of forgiveness.

Jesus, You once stilled the storm with a word. Speak that same word now into the storms that rage within us and around us.

We ask this in the name of the one who is our peace—Jesus Christ our teacher. Amen.

🙏🏾 Holy One:

We pray today for our faith communities.

You have placed us into real places with real needs.

Help us to be mindful of the needs around us and to respond to those needs with love, justice, compassion - and real actions.

May we partner with those working for the common good.

Open our eyes and our hands to make an impact with our neighbors.

🙏🏾 I pray for the bruised reed
And the dimly burning wick,
Including those who don’t realize their brokenness.

I pray for God’s reviving,
The healing that is needed,
Including for those who don’t realize it or admit it
Even to themselves-

Those whose bravado is overwhelming,
Those who inflict hurt and brokenness
In their own hurt and brokenness.

I pray for all the bruised reeds
And the dimly burning wicks.

I pray for God’s reviving of the core of love
And for the healing
And enlightening
That is needed.
