Who guards the guardians? This Sunday, we explored one of the most critical questions facing every church: what kind of leaders should shepherd God's flock?
We discussed Acts 20 and demonstrated that the three titles used there are interchangeable, pointing to a single office: The Pastor/Elder/Overseer. But just knowing what the Office is isn't enough; WHO should fill it?
Drawing from 1 Timothy 3, we examined Paul's portrait of godly leadership. It's not about charisma, business savvy, or impressive credentials. It's about character: men who are above reproach, faithful in their homes, gentle yet firm, and deeply rooted in Scripture. The qualifications aren't a checklist for perfection or sinlessness (NO Pastor is sinless), but a description of lives consistently shaped by Christ.
Here's the sobering truth: too many churches have been wounded by leaders who looked impressive but lacked godly character. We must guard the eldership carefully, because the sheep belong to the Chief Shepherd, and He will ask what we did with His flock.
Whether you aspire to leadership or simply want to understand biblical church structure, this message challenges us all to pursue integrity, hospitality, and spiritual maturity. The home is the laboratory of leadership: what happens there reveals what will happen in the church.
Join us this Sunday as we explore the complementary office of leadership: the Diaconate.
