This Sunday the Watermark Church kids will be learning about God giving Israel victory in Jericho!

Recognizing that parents are the primary faith nurturers of their children and that the opportunity & time to nurture a child in Children’s Church is limited, children are given a parent page each week with the account, Scripture reference(s), and key themes from that Sunday’s lesson. Each page provides parents with suggested discussion questions to further reinforce & build on the truth presented in class.
Every Sunday we have Children’s Church available through 2nd grade following our time in worship through music. Because we desire to partner with parents, if your child is out of 2nd grade but isn’t ready for the main service & is able to be patient with the younger kids, they are welcome to come to Children’s Church.

For those staying in the service, we have Children’s bulletins on the Welcome Table to help them track. When they show their completed bulletin to Pastor Cameron following the service, they can choose something from the treasure box! Through these special children's bulletins, we hope to partner with you, their parents, to accomplish three goals:

1) To help your children engage in the corporate study of God’s Word.
2) To learn how to be active participants in church through note taking and thus solidifying what is being taught.
3) To bridge the gap and help them connect with their pastor as vital members of our local body of believers.

1 Corinthians 15:1-34

Why is the resurrection so crucial to our faith?

1. Because by it, we are saved by God (15:1-11).

Paul reminded the Christians in Corinth that Jesus died, was buried, and that He rose again on the third day! And it was because of Christ’s resurrection that well over five hundred people, the apostles included, believed in His name. If it had not been for the resurrection of Christ, then no one would be saved. This first section provides three proofs to Christ’s resurrection:

The fact that they were saved
The Old Testament Scriptures
The 500+ eyewitness accounts

2. Because without it, there would be no gospel (15:12-19).

The word “gospel” means “good news.” However, if there is no resurrection, then there is no good news to be shared. Just like every other belief system, Christianity would have a dead founder who would be of no benefit to anyone for anything. Without a resurrection, there would be no hope, no life, and no future. But unlike every other world religion, Jesus Christ is alive and well and reigns supreme forevermore! As such, because of the resurrection, we have really good news to share with the world.

3. Because of it, Revelation is where we’re going (15:20-34).

The resurrection is the one event that sealed the deal and set off a chain of events for everything that comes next—the return of Christ, the resurrection of the saints (the rapture), the judgment of this world, and the bringing forth of the new creation. Therefore, as Christians, we should have an eternal perspective. The past resurrection of Christ and the future resurrection of God’s people should cause us to consider and focus on all that God has in store, both for us as believers as well as those who choose not to receive Christ’s free offer of salvation.

Acts 17:30-31 says, “The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now He commands all people everywhere to repent, because He has fixed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by a Man whom He has appointed; and of this He has given full assurance to all by raising Him from the dead.”

1 Corinthians 14:1-40

This passage provides us with three rules every church must implement to do all things decently and in order!

When communicating truth, focus on clarity (14:1-25).
When meeting together, avoid any confusion (14:26-33).
When doing anything, submit to Christ (14:34-40).

What was happening in the Corinthian congregation was nothing short of chaotic and confusing. The church members were getting caught up in the spiritual gift of tongues and, whether they spoke these languages or not, were obsessed with making the service a show and turning the spotlight on themselves as they spouted off mysterious gibberish. However, all throughout this chapter, Paul told them to stop focusing on themselves and start focusing on others.

Vs. 3 “…the one who prophesies speaks to people for their upbuilding and encouragement and consolation.”
Vs. 4 “…the one who prophesies builds up the church.”
Vs. 5 “…so that the church may be built up.”
Vs. 12 “…since you are eager for manifestations of the Spirit, strive to excel in building up the church.”
Vs. 17 “For you may be giving thanks well enough, but the other person is not being built up.”
Vs. 19 “Nevertheless, in church I would rather speak five words with my mind in order to instruct others, than ten thousand words in a tongue.”
Vs. 26 “…Let all things be done for building up.”
Vs. 31 “For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all be encouraged.”

The Apostle Paul was urging these Christians at this church to implement these three rules:

When communicating truth, focus on clarity (14:1-25).
When meeting together, avoid any confusion (14:26-33).
When doing anything, submit to Christ (14:34-40).

So, after addressing the misuse of tongues and encouraging the greater use of prophecy, Paul ended this discussion by speaking on a woman’s role within the local church context. Now, at first glance, it can sound strange, harsh, or even out of place, but the reason Paul brought this up at this point in the passage was because, whether intentionally or not, some of the women were gradually entering into authoritative positions within the church by weighing in on and judging prophecies (1 Corinthians 14:29, 33-35).

Both men and women are free to prophesy and operate openly within their spiritual giftings in the prescribed manner (1 Corinthians 11:4-5), but the clear teaching of the Bible from beginning to end is that God has set apart and called faithful, competent, and spiritually mature men to lead, oversee, and shepherd His flock. Thus, while the LORD distributes to both men and women all His gifts, the LORD has determined that only spiritually qualified men should govern His church. This is why every church must implement these three rules so that they will do everything decently and in order:

Why is love more important than anything else?

Because without love, your gifts are empty (13:1-3).
Because with love, your life is extraordinary (13:4-7).
Because apart from love, nothing will endure (13:8-13).

1 Corinthians 13:1-13 is often recognized as the “love” chapter of the Bible. It is sandwiched right in the middle of Paul’s discussion on spiritual gifts, which the Corinthian Christians were arguing about and fighting over. What he tells them in vs. 4-8 is that “Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.”

While the believers in Corinth were getting all hung up on who had the most flashy gift or who could draw the largest crowd, Paul taught them that one day soon none of their gifts would matter or serve any purpose whatsoever…whereas love would endure forever! And ultimately speaking, you and I don’t have to look any further than the Lord Jesus Christ to see exactly what true love looks like as He performed the greatest act of self-sacrifice in human history by dying on the Cross for our sins. The type of love that God calls us to express is the type of love that Jesus Himself modeled which quite literally takes us to our death!

“I will love you so much even if it kills me!”

“I will die loving you!”

That type of love is not natural, normal, worldly, or ordinary! That type of love, the love that Christ displayed on the Cross and poured out for each one of us, is supernatural, abnormal, other-worldly, and extraordinary! True love not only goes to the grave, but true love comes back out of the grave on the other side! And this is how God has demonstrated His own love for His people:

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”

Romans 8:8 “God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

1 John 4:9-10 “In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent His only Son into the world, so that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”
