Have you ever been thankful that God, in His grace, didn't give up on us the first time we disobeyed?

In Jonah 3, God speaks to Jonah a second time.
A Second Time!
There is grace in those words.

This chapter is about more than second chances. It's about a gracious God who pursues sinners, calls them to repentance, and shows mercy to those who deserve judgment.

His Grace is greater than our sin!

This Wednesday at THE FIELD, we're continuing our study through Jonah, and we're going to talk about what genuine repentance looks like and why God's grace should change the way we live.

Bro. Michael here.

I want to share something that happened this morning at FBC Union and Hope Baptist Church in Philadelphia that really encouraged me. I preached at Hope today, and leading worship was the FBC Student Praise band. It's not the first time Olivia, Sawyer, Drew, and others have been sent out to do such. Jacob Howell, Bro. Luke Howell, Bro. Nathan, and others have been pouring into them for many months now.

While I was getting ready to go to Hope, FBC Union was having their 8:30am service, and I was live-streaming it. And...I heard something amazing. For some time now, our pianist, Deanna Moore, has been working with one of our students, Stella Burroughs, teaching her to play the piano. This morning, Stella played during FBC Union's congregational worship!

Not to mention that students play in our orchestra each week!

All this is a pretty big deal!

The latest studies show that by 2040, SBC churches need 20,000 new worship leaders. At FBC Union, we decided to invest in the next generation of musicians. The next generation of church musicians won't appear out of nowhere. Many of them are in the pew. We must encourage them, equip them, and give them opportunities to serve TODAY.

Discipleship isn't just about teaching someone what we know. It's about investing in them, showing them how to walk in the Lord, teaching them to obey His commands, and helping them grow in the faith, while preparing them to serve the Lord with the gifts He has given them. In some ways, it's part of what Paul talked about when he said, "fan into the flame the gift of God"...to stir up, rekindle...to keep a roaring fire going.

That's how ministry gets passed from one generation to the next.

And I'm here for it!

What do you do when you've prayed for relief, but it doesn't come?
When you don't understand what God is doing, and you have no idea when or IF your circumstances will change?

James reminds us in James 5:7–12 that God doesn't always tell us how to escape suffering. Sometimes, He tells us how to endure it. And how to be faithful in it!

And He gives us a glorious reason to remain faithful:
CHRIST IS COMING!

Our circumstances may be uncertain, but our Lord is not. Adults, join us tonight at 6:00 PM in the sanctuary at First Baptist Church Union for our Wednesday night Bible study.

HEY COLLEGE STUDENTS AND YOUNG ADULTS,

HOW FAR CAN YOU RUN BEFORE GOD STOPS HEARING YOUR PRAYERS?

Jonah ran from God. He rebelled against God's Word. Eventually, he hit rock bottom, in the belly of a great fish.

But from that place of desperation, Jonah cried out to the Lord. And God heard him.

Maybe you've been there. Maybe you're there right now. You've made some bad decisions, you've run from God, and you're wondering if you've gone too far.

Here's the good news: God's mercy is greater than your failures.

This Wednesday at THE FIELD, we're diving into Jonah 2 and discovering how God uses even our deepest struggles to draw us back to Himself.

Brady serves as Family Discipleship Pastor at FBC Lake. We are Bro Brady's home church and he was here visiting family. But if you come home, we will put you to work.

THE SIGNAL. THE SWORD. THE SHAME.
A kiss that concealed betrayal.
A sword drawn in desperation.
A shameful escape into the darkness.
The events surrounding the arrest of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane reveal something deeply troubling about the people who were closest to Him.
One betrayed Him. Another tried to defend Him. But they ALL fled.

But Jesus said, "Let the Scriptures be fulfilled."

Jesus was doing exactly what He had come to do. No matter how crazy things seemed around him...an armed mob, a disciple swinging a sword, and guy running off with no clothes on... God is still bringing about His purposes.

Truly, the Shepherd has come to lay down his life for His sheep.
