Our History:
St. Rocco was officially inaugurated and d
edicated on July 14, 1912 by the Rev. Grieff, Pastor of Holy Family, Union City who had been delegated by the Most Rev. Raphael O’Connor, Bishop of Newark. Father Sinisi celebrated the first mass. In 1912 the first priest, Father Sinisi founder and the first Pastor of St. Rocco led the parish from 1912 to 1922, when he was replace by Father Grisciotti, who was a Pallottine Father. Up until the year of 1984 all the priests were Pallottine Fathers. The first rectory was on the second floor of a wooden church on the corner than known as Liberty Street and Hudson Boulevard, Union Hill. The wooden Church was a cobbler shop with an upstairs residence. The cobbler shop was altered for Church use while the upstairs was retained in part as a residence for the priest. A small belfry was added to the structure. In 1923 a one family wooden house on at 544 Liberty Street was purchased for use as a rectory. The present rectory on Kennedy Boulevard was dedicated on June 24, 1951. The former rectory was used for many years as a residence for the sexton. The original wooden church burned down in 1924 and rebuilding of the existing building began, under the guidance of Father Grisciotti, Father Grisciotti was able to save many of the relics and The Blessed Sacrament from the flames.
