Christmas Celebration with the Ulysses Ward Dec. 12, 2025

Celebration with the Ulysses Ward is always a fun filled event with fellowship and lots of food. This year was no different. The evening started with the Primary doing the Nativity narrated by Brother Gibbons. I felt the spirit as Joseph and Mary entered the manger where The Christ Child soon joined them. Then we watched the shepherds enter to see the Christ Child. Several of the children were dressed as angels singing and praising the wonderful event that had taken place, Then came the wise men. It was the perfect way to start the Christmas Party and think about the wonderful birth of our Savior Jesus Christ. Thank you Primary. It was wonderful and we thank and love you.
After the beautiful Nativity we were allowed to eat the meal. The Elders Quorum was in charge of the meal so we were blessed to eat Tate's Barbeque. You can't go wrong with Tate's. Thank you Elders Quorum.
The party ended with Santa showing up to talk with the children and gave them a gift bag.
The decorations were beautiful and it was an awesome way to spend the evening. We were blessed to have several guests join us. It always makes it better when we have friends to share it with.

Ulysses Ward Thanksgiving Dinner
Nov 12, 2025

I think everyone looks forward to the Ward Thanksgiving Dinner. There is always lots of delicious food, entertainment, fellowshipping. This year the dinner started with the Youth singing "For the Beauty of the Earth".
There were tables set up that had crafts that the children could do. Lots of coloring all around the room. There was a turkey that needed feathers and so he was decorated nicely with lots of feathers.
There was a Thankful Tree and members were invited to write what they were thankful for on a leaf and put on the tree.
There were many friends (guests) that came and shared in the joy of the evening.
Thanks to the many people that prepared the activities, brought food, sang and came with their smiles and ready to fellowship.

October 29, 2025 Ulysses Ward Halloween Party

What fun to see how creative the children and adults can be as they dressed in their costumes.

There were people asked to be judges for best chili, hottest chili, various categories of costumes, and best trunk. I was able to be one of the judges. We tasted chili and them grouped together to decided on the winners. One advantages of being a judge was you got to taste the chili before the others ate. Some thought we were going back and tasting too often but we had to be sure.

While the chili was being judged the children were playing games and doing activities. Then we were finally allowed to eat chili and cinnamon rolls. Several of the judges thought we should be allowed to taste the cinnamon rolls but sadly we weren't allowed.

Trophies were given out to the winners. Best chili went to Shirley Kaye Seger. Hottest chili went to Richard Seger.

The costumes were awesome but unfortunately this historian didn't get pictures before they started changing out of them.

It was then time for what the children really came for Trunk or Treat time. Even though it was chilly out they went from trunk to trunk to get treats.

What a fun night!!!!!!!!! Thanks for all who planned, helped and participated in the Halloween Party.

Making Angel Blankets October 18, 2025
By Dee Ann Moore

What are Angel Blankets? They are blankets (12" or 18" squares) that are given at the hospital to parents who have lost their baby. A sad time for them and hopefully this will help comfort them.

As a Stake Relief Society several of the sisters gathered to make these blankets. A few of the sisters from the Ulysses Ward went to help and serve. One side of the blanket is flannel and the other side satin. Some sisters cut the material, some pinned the pieces together, some sewed the pieces together and then the blankets were pressed then folded and put in bags. In the bags there was placed a little bear and a tag saying "Made with Love by the Relief Society of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints"

There was a lot of laughing, getting to know each other better, and of course food and drink. What a wonderful 2 hours. The time went fast and I know I was filled with joy to be able to serve.

Thank you Stake Relief Society Presidency (Carol Egley, Melinda Justice, Lana Colman and Camella Northrup) We love you and appreciate all that you do. This was an uplifting service project.

Ulysses Ward Relief Society on KP duty September 16, 2025

KP Duty???? Yes it is the annual Grant County Home Products Dinner. Dignitaries, people of Grant County, and people from all over Western Kansas gather and share a dinner made from food that has been produced in Grant County. This is the 62nd Annual Home Products Dinner.

For years the Relief Society has peeled and sliced potatoes for the meal. I remember as a child my mother and other sisters in the ward helping to serve by peeling potatoes.

This year a few of the sisters gathered to do it again. On Monday Sister Hale, Sister Snook and Allena Snook took the potatoes to the car wash for washing. That's right the car wash! This turned out to be a great idea. Much better than washing them in the kitchen sink and made it quicker for the peeling on Tuesday.

Tuesday we peeled potatoes, sliced them, put them in roasters, and added cheese sauce. We filled five roasters. The roasters were then taken to the Civic Center to cook.

Also on Monday some of the sisters went and helped cut up watermelon. There will be a few members helping serve the meal.

What a privilege it is for the ward to help serve the community in this long honored tradition of Grant County.

Ulysses Ward Young Women Serving September 10, 2025

Mosiah 2:17 "...when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God"

These amazing young women came in ready to work! They and their leaders picked up brush and debris and stacked it nicely.

Bro. Mortensen taught a few of the Young Women to use the chain saw. Two neighbors came over to see what was going on, so we took the opportunity to testify of service. The Sisters Missionaries even got a service opportunity with a neighbor for Friday.

Another neighbor said he was wondering where all the young women came from…I told him that Jesus sent them, and they came!🥰

We are so grateful for their selflessness.

Learning English/Culture Night July 17, 2025

The Sister Missionaries and Brother and Sister Mortensen have been teaching English to anyone in the community. They have been teaching 5 or sometimes more eager learners. This night they had a culture night. Each person was to bring a dish that represented their culture and present it in English. The members of the Ulysses Ward were invited to attend and share a dish. I loved the dishes that were brought and the fellowship with the class members. This is a great service that is being shared with the people of the community.

Thank you Sister Missionaries and Brother and Sister Mortensen.

Pool Party Time July 11, 2025 Ulysses Ward
What better way to end a hot July day in Kansas than swimming with family and friends. Members of the Ulysses Ward invited friends to join in the fun. Pizza and water were provided. Several came not to swim but to watch and fellowship. They said it was hot.

FOOD, FUN, EXERCISE and FELLOWSHIP made for a wonderful evening.

Thanks Sister Zulauf and the primary for organizing the activity.

Fun, Fellowship, Food Storage Ulysses Ward Relief Society July 12, 2025

The Relief Society activity started with Sister Gibbons showing how to make raised flower/vegetable beds from pallets. We learned it is best to get pallets that have been heat treated (they are marked with HT).

Next we canned flour, sugar, powered sugar, rice and pintos beans. The #10 cans were given to the ward from the children of Charles and JoAnn Dew. The cans had been in storage and they contacted Sister Hale to see if the ward would like them. WE ARE GRATEFUL for their generous gift.

We also learned you can put these items in glass mason jars and seal them using a mason jar sealer.

What a wonderful way to spend a Saturday Morning!!!!!!

Ulysses YW Retreat Elkhart KS June 26-28
Dee Ann Moore

The Ulysses young women went on a 2-night retreat to an AirBNB in Elkhart at the end of June and had the best time! They learned about first aid and working in the healthcare field, completed embroidery projects, made personalized greeting cards for care home residents, and tied blankets for kids in foster care. They also had a fireside with the bishop and spent time studying scriptures, journaling, attending devotionals, and watching the sunrise come up in the Cimarron National Grasslands. They spent their free time doing crafts and bracelets, singing karaoke, and making memories together.
