First Baptist Ukiah

First Baptist Ukiah Join us Sunday mornings at 9:30am! Biblical Discipleship is the primary way believers grow and become Christ-like.

Our Mission:
FBU exists to lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ

Our Core Values

Relevant Biblical Truth:
We believe that the truth of the Bible is both perfect and relevant for us in our lives today. All of our core values are rooted in the Word of God and we believe biblical understanding is important for every follower of Christ to grow in their relationship with Jesus,

because scripture is the way that God reveals himself to us. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness (2 Timothy 3:16)

Discipleship:
We highly value the discipleship of all ages, as Jesus has commanded us to do. We believe in making disciples who will make disciples. Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20)

Godly Leadership:
Our leaders will strive to be Christ-like servants in the church, knowing that all authority comes from God. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. (John 13:14-16)

Prayer:
We believe prayer is essential to a person's spiritual development. Jesus commands us to pray, because prayer is powerful, effective, and brings us into the presence of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. (Ephesians 6:18)

Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. (James 5:16)

Biblical Integrity:
We will seek to demonstrate integrity through ethical practice and transparency, as directed in the Bible. As Godly stewards, we will be clear and transparent in all we do, seeking to please God instead of man. Since an overseer manages God’s household, he must be blameless—not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain. Rather, he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined. He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it. (Titus 1:7-9)

Compassionate Outreach to the Community:
We will aim to demonstrate love and compassion to those in our community by seeking to meet both physical and spiritual needs as we carry out the Great Commission of Matthew 28:18-20 to go and make disciples. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19)

Our Beliefs

One God, Three Persons:
The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit exist in unity as one triune God and three separate distinct Persons

Jesus Christ is the Son of God:
He was born of a virgin as both fully God and fully man, lived a sinless life, died to atone for the sins of man, was buried, arose from the grave, ascended into heaven, and will return again. The Holy Spirit:
The divine helper, assistant, counselor and instructor. His work is to reveal Christ, convict of sin, lead to repentance, guide believers, comfort, strengthen, and sanctify. He is fully God and equally as glorious as the Father and Son. The Bible:
The Bible is the Word of God and is without error. Scripture is the sole and final authority for the life of a believer. Man:
Humans are the special creations of God, made in His image, and designed to glorify Him. We fell because of Adam and Eve's sin, and we continue to sin and are in need of salvation. Salvation:
Salvation is deliverance from the current power of sin and the eternal spiritual death caused by sin, which is only possible through faith in Jesus and His redemptive work on the cross, and is demonstrated through repentance from sin.

A theology lesson from my 10 year old.

Yesterday Addy and I were in the car on the way home from school. She turns to me and says:
“Daddy, did you know that there is never just one inventor of something?”
“What do you mean, Sweet-Girl?”
“Well since God made everything, that means that inventors can only make something out of what God already made. So really, God is part inventor of all things.”

What a truth that is.

Today, in my "bible in a year" reading, I finish the book of Job and begin the Psalms. I cannot help but marvel at God's word and delight in how it fits together. After reading of the wisdom of Job and his steadfastness in the Lord, I am met with Psalm 1.

"Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers, but his delight is in the law of the Lord and on it he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water whose leaf does not wither and who bears fruit in its season. In all he does he prospers."

I cannot help but think of Job as a read this Psalm. Job steadfastly trusted God and delighted in His ways. Because of this, he remained unmoved in trial. Prospering in all we do does not mean that all will go according to plan or be perfectly comfortable. Job proves this. But he also proves that those who trust in the Lord are not abandoned or put to shame. They bear fruit in their season and their leaf does not wither.
