Mateo 18, 15-20
En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: "Si tu hermano comete un pecado, ve y amonéstalo a solas. Si te escucha, habrás salvado a tu hermano. Si no te hace caso, hazte acompañar de una o dos personas, para que todo lo que se diga conste por boca de dos o tres testigos. Pero si ni así te hace caso, díselo a la comunidad; y si ni a la comunidad le hace caso, apártate de él como de un pagano o de un publicano.

Yo les aseguro que todo lo que aten en la tierra, quedará atado en el cielo, y todo lo que desaten en la tierra, quedará desatado en el cielo.

Yo les aseguro también, que si dos de ustedes se ponen de acuerdo para pedir algo, sea lo que fuere, mi Padre celestial se lo concederá; pues donde dos o tres se reúnen en mi nombre, ahí estoy yo en medio de ellos''.

Domingo 23 (A) del tiempo ordinario

Hoy, el Evangelio propone que consideremos algunas recomendaciones de Jesús a sus discípulos de entonces y de siempre. También en la comunidad de los primeros cristianos había faltas y comportamientos contrarios a la voluntad de Dios.

El versículo final nos ofrece el marco para resolver los problemas que se presenten dentro de la Iglesia durante la historia: «Donde están dos o tres reunidos en mi nombre, allí estoy yo en medio de ellos» (Mt 18,20). Jesús está presente en todos los períodos de la vida de su Iglesia, su “Cuerpo místico” animado por la acción incesante del Espíritu Santo. Somos siempre hermanos, tanto si la comunidad es grande como si es pequeña.

«Si tu hermano llega a pecar, vete y repréndele, a solas tú con él. Si te escucha, habrás ganado a tu hermano» (Mt 18,15). ¡Qué bonita y leal es la relación de fraternidad que Jesús nos enseña! Ante una falta contra mí o hacia otro, he de pedir al Señor su gracia para perdonar, para comprender y, finalmente, para tratar de corregir a mi hermano.

Hoy no es tan fácil como cuando la Iglesia era menos numerosa. Pero, si pensamos las cosas en diálogo con nuestro Padre Dios, Él nos iluminará para encontrar el tiempo, el lugar y las palabras oportunas para cumplir con nuestro deber de ayudar. Es importante purificar nuestro corazón. San Pablo nos anima a corregir al prójimo con intención recta: «Cuando alguno incurra en alguna falta, vosotros, los espirituales, corregidle con espíritu de mansedumbre, y cuídate de ti mismo, pues también tú puedes ser tentado» (Gal 6,1).

El afecto profundo y la humildad nos harán buscar la suavidad. «Obrad con mano maternal, con la delicadeza infinita de nuestras madres, mientras nos curaban las heridas grandes o pequeñas de nuestros juegos y tropiezos infantiles» (San Josemaría). Así nos corrige la Madre de Jesús y Madre nuestra, con inspiraciones para amar más a Dios y a los hermanos.

Twenty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time (A)

Today, the Gospel suggests that we consider some of Jesus' recommendations to His disciples, both from those times and for all times. Even in the community of the early Christians, there were faults and behaviors contrary to God's will. The final verse provides the framework for resolving problems that arise within the Church throughout history: "For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them " (Mt 18:20). Jesus is present in every period of the life of His Church, His "Mystical Body", invigorated by the unceasing action of the Holy Spirit. We are always brothers and sisters, whether the community is large or small.

"If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have won over your brother” (Mt 18:15). How beautiful and loyal is the fraternal relationship about which Jesus teaches us! When faced with an offense against me or someone else, I must ask the Lord for His grace to forgive, to understand, and ultimately, to try to correct my brother or sister.

Today, things are not as simple as when the Church was less numerous. But if we ponder our relationships in dialogue with our Heavenly Father, He will enlighten us to find the time, place, and appropriate words to fulfill our duty to help one another in a spirit of familial charity. It's crucial to purify our hearts. Accordingly, St. Paul encourages us to correct our neighbor with a righteous intent: “Brothers, even if a person is caught in some transgression, you who are spiritual should correct that one in a gentle spirit, looking to yourself, so that you also may not be tempted” (Gal 6:1).

Our deep affection and humility will make us seek gentleness. “Go with a motherly hand, with the almost infinite tenderness shown by our own mothers, when they were treating the hurts and injuries, big or little, resulting from our childhood games and falls” (Saint Josemaría Escrivá). This is how the Mother of Jesus, and our Mother too, corrects us: with inspirations to love God and our brothers and sisters more deeply.

Pope: Church needs a Eucharistic spirituality of unity in love
Meeting with contemplative nuns, Pope Leo XIV upholds their role in the Church as weavers of communion with the threads of prayer, work, and Eucharistic adoration.
Pope Leo XIV met on Saturday with several members of the Perpetual Adorers of the Most Blessed Sacrament, also known as the Sacramentine Nuns.
Founded in Rome in 1807 by Blessed Maria Maddalena of the Incarnation, the contemplative nuns devote their lives to the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament day and night, and follow the rule of St. Augustine.
Those who met with the Pope form part of the Federation of the Holy Spirit, a group of around 30 convents, mostly in Mexico, which was founded 50 years ago and includes roughly half of the congregation’s convents spread across the globe.
In his address, Pope Leo called the Sacramentine Nuns’ presence “a radiant testimony to the gratuitousness of God, who sows within the human heart the desire to seek and contemplate His face.”
Their devotion to Eucharistic adoration, he said, offers a response to the profound longing for God written deep in the human heart.
“This constant search for the face of God, which particularly characterizes monastic life, takes on a special dimension in the vocation you have received,” he said. “It is expressed in a life devoted entirely to the continuous and silent adoration of God who has made Himself bread and who invites us to unite ourselves with Him in the sacrifice of the altar, so as to form one body.”
Pope Leo pointed to St. Augustine’s explanation that the bread and wine upon the altar are the “sacrament of the unity of the faithful in Christ.”
“For this reason,” he said, “we need a Eucharistic spirituality, that is, a spirituality of ecclesial unity in love.”
In their daily lives devoted to adoration, the contemplative nuns “radiate throughout the world the beauty of the face of Christ in the Blessed Sacrament.”
“By manifesting within the Church the specific charism you received from your foundress,” he said, “you are called to be weavers of communion with the threads of prayer and work, Eucharistic adoration, and fraternal sharing within the monastery.”
In conclusion, Pope Leo XIV invited the Sacramentine Nuns to live their consecration to God with renewed hope and a desire for holiness.
Remember, he urged, “that fidelity to the ancient and ever-new wisdom of the Gospel is the best path for those who, guided by the Holy Spirit, dedicate themselves to loving God and their neighbour.”

la comunidad como experiencia de perdón y oración
III.1. El evangelio de hoy forma parte de uno de los discursos más significativos del primer evangelio. Mateo se caracteriza por una narra­ción de la actuación de Jesús que viene alentada por una serie de discursos. En este caso, nos encontramos con el llamado «discurso eclesiológico» porque se contemplan en él las normas de comportamiento básicas de una comunidad cris­tiana: perdón, comprensión, solidaridad. Hoy aparece lo que se ha llamado la corrección fraterna, el tema del per­dón de los pecados en el seno de la comunidad, y el valor de la oración común.

III.2. La corrección fraterna es muy importante, porque todos somos pecadores, y tenemos un cierto derecho a nuestra intimidad. Pero se trata de pecados graves que afec­tan a la comunión, y para ello se debe seguir una praxis de admonición, con ne­cesidad de testigos, para que nadie sea expulsado de la comunidad sin una ver­dadera pedagogía de caridad y de comprensión. El poder de «atar y desatar», que en Mt 16 (hace dos domingos) se confería a Pedro, completa lo que allí se dijo: es en la comunidad donde tiene todo sentido el perdón de los pecados. Eso exige dar oportunidades, para que no sea el puritanismo lo específico de una comunidad, como muchas lo han pretendido a lo largo de la historia de la Iglesia. ¡No! No es el puritanismo lo esencial, aunque nuestro texto se resiente de ello, sino ofrecer a los que se han equivocado e incluso ofendido a la comunidad, la oportunidad nueva de integrarse solidaria y fraternalmente en ella. Si leemos el texto en clave disciplinar y jurídica, entonces habremos rebajado mucho el valor evangélico de la comunidad.

III.3. De la misma manera, la oración común enriquece sobremanera nuestra oración personal. Eso no excluye la necesidad de que tengamos experiencias de perdón y de oración personales, pero hay más sentido cuando todo ello se integra en la comunidad. La religión enriquece la dimensión social de la persona humana. Sin duda que estos aspectos tienen otros matices e interpretaciones, pero la dimen­sión comunitaria es la más rica en consecuencias.

y para hacer todo lo que podamos
para permanecer como comunidad viva,
acogedora y que sabe perdonar.

Lord Jesus, make me an instrument of your healing love and peace. Give me wisdom and courage to bring your healing love and saving truth to those in need of healing and restoration.
