People all over the work outside the church and in are looking for an escape, a way out from under the crushing weight to life this side of Eden. But there is no escaping it. The best the world can offer is a temporary distraction to delay the inevitable or deny the inescapable.
That’s why Jesus doesn’t offer us an escape. He offers us something far better: equipment. He offers His apprentices a whole new way to bear the weight of our humanity: with ease. At His side. Like two oxen in a field, tied shoulder to shoulder. With Jesus doing all the heavy lifting. At His pace. Slow unhurried, present to the moment, full of love and joy and peace.
An easy life isn’t an option; an easy yoke is.

I wanted to share, this is amazing!

Reading today in 1st Samuel. Can you imagine coming back from fighting several battles then being kicked out of the organization you were fighting for, only to find out that your family had been taken away by raiders when you got home!
But this fierce warrior (David) weeps until he has no more strength.....
I can absolutely identify with this. Just being so broken you feel like your body and spirit are empty.
But David doesn’t go off half cocked, he doesn’t continue to mourn, he turns to the only source of true strength we can know! 1 Sam 30:6 But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God.
I imagine this warrior beating his chest begging his God, repenting for his shortcomings.
During this time with God he takes the next natural step, prayer first asking for guidance second. He doesn’t develop his course of action first he asks God if the direction he should go is correct.

My prayer for us today is we would pray first, in our struggle as men/fathers/sons/brothers. Then seek His guidance through His word/ and not try and make these decisions, the hard ones alone.
Lastly if you need someone to chase down the Amalekites who stole your family don’t do alone. Give me a call, I would love to help!
