The membership is multiracial and international with a majority being Black. Andrew's is the focus from which our programs and activities emanate, with the Holy Eucharist at the center. Since the beginning St. Andrew's has had 4 Full-Time Rectors: Rev. H.J.C. Bowden, Rev. R.E. DuBose, Jr., Rev. Vernon A. Jones, Jr. and Rev. Liston A. Garfield; and 3 Permanent Supply Priests: Rev. Charles Womelsdo
rf, Rev. Tiffany Cheney (Lutheran) and Rev. Elaine Drake Whitelaw (present). The ground-breaking for St. Andrew's present location was held on April 15, 1950. Prior to that members held services on the campus of Tuskegee Institute (now Tuskegee University). Due to smart investments and money management by early members, St. Andrew's members today enjoy worship in a mortgage free WIFI equipped church. A 2-story Education Building was added in 1997 with classrooms, office space, elevator, storage rooms, kitchen, conference room and restrooms with our Campus Ministry in mind. In 1999 St. Andrew's main sanctuary building collapsed one Saturday morning in July. Thankfully, no one was present. The building was rebuilt and dedicated November of 2002. There are presently 50 units, single and/or plural, eligible to pledge or contribute to the church today. The Operating Budget is derived from a yearly Every Member Canvass. Not only do today's members live in Tuskegee, many drive from Opelika, Auburn, and Montgomery for worship. Their talents, skills, dedication and commitment bring strength to the church. Outreach activities are planned and carried out by the Stewardship Outreach Committee. Through this program St. Andrew's provides material items to underprivileged families; food and clothing to needy families; reading materials and fresh fruit to inmates of the Macon County Jail; gifts to seniors at Magnolia Nursing Home and patients at Central Alabama Healthcare, East Campus (Veterans' Hospital); contributions to the Macon County Department of Human Resources and other community organizations that respond to the needs of humankind. Andrew's roots are intertwined with Tuskegee University. Through our Campus Ministry we provide a quiet place to study, food and other necessities to Episcopal students attending the university. Over the last 20 or more years, St. Andrew's has provided meeting space to community organizations such as Macon County Chapter of AARP and more recently Movement 46, a community advocacy group. In 2020, St. Andrew's was the recipient of 2 Alabama Coronavirus Relief Fund Grants totaling $35,000.00 from Gov. Kay Ivey, Governor of Alabama. This grant money was used for Macon County Seniors to aid in the reduction of co-morbidities through education and the distribution of health monitoring equipment. Parish life at St Andrew's involve a number of activities, sponsored by organized groups in the church. These groups provide an opportunity for fellowship and contribute to the enhancement of parish life. Some church organizations are: The Episcopal Church Women (ECW), The Brotherhood of St. Andrew, Daughters of the King (DOK), St. Catherine's Guild, St. Martha's Guild, Choir, Altar Guild, Fellowship and Ushers. All organizations engage in study and sponsor projects throughout the year.
