Why should you go to church today?

Not because God needs your attendance.

Not because church attendance earns salvation.

Not because it is merely a tradition.

We gather because Christ is worthy of worship.

We gather because God commands His people not to neglect meeting together.

We gather because we need the preaching of God’s Word, the fellowship of believers, and the encouragement that comes from worshiping together.

The local church is God’s primary instrument for the discipleship and growth of His people.

In a world filled with noise, confusion, and uncertainty, there is something profoundly refreshing about opening God’s Word and hearing, “Thus says the Lord.”

This article from 9Marks offers a helpful reminder of why gathering with God’s people is essential for spiritual growth:

Every generation searches for hope.

Some look to politics. Others look to wealth, technology, education, or personal achievement.

Yet history repeatedly demonstrates that none of these things can cure the deepest problem of the human heart.

Our greatest need is reconciliation with God.

The good news of Christianity is not that we can save ourselves, but that God has acted in Christ to save sinners.

Jesus lived the righteous life we failed to live, died the death we deserved, and rose again victorious over sin and death.

Because of Him, forgiveness is available. Hope is available. Eternal life is available.

Many parents today feel overwhelmed.

They see a culture increasingly hostile to biblical values and wonder how they can faithfully raise their children.

The answer is not panic. It is discipleship.

Deuteronomy 6 reminds parents to teach God’s Word diligently to their children in the ordinary rhythms of life.

Children do not primarily need bigger programs, better entertainment, or endless activities. They need parents who love Christ, model repentance, teach Scripture, and faithfully involve them in the life of the local church.

The church cannot replace parents, but it can come alongside them by proclaiming God’s truth and helping equip the next generation.

Our greatest hope for our children is not found in politics, education, or cultural influence. It is found in the saving grace of Jesus Christ.

Parents, remain faithful. God often works through ordinary means over long periods of time.

We have never been more connected digitally, yet loneliness continues to grow.

Thousands of online friends cannot replace genuine Christian fellowship.

God created us for community. From the beginning, He declared that it was not good for man to be alone. While technology has many benefits, it cannot provide what God designed the church to provide.

The New Testament describes believers praying together, eating together, serving together, suffering together, and rejoicing together.

Christianity is not merely about consuming content. It is about belonging to Christ and His people.

This excellent article from The Gospel Coalition addresses the growing loneliness epidemic and the church’s role in addressing it:

The local church is not a gathering of perfect people. It is a family of redeemed sinners learning to follow Christ together.

If you’ve been feeling isolated, don’t settle for virtual substitutes. God has given His church as a means of grace for your encouragement and growth.

We live in a culture that increasingly treats truth as something personal and subjective.

What is true for one person, we are told, may not be true for another.

Yet Jesus said, “Your word is truth” (John 17:17).

The Christian faith is not built upon personal preferences or private experiences. It is built upon the unchanging Word of God. Truth does not originate with us; it comes from God.

This is good news because a world without objective truth is a world without certainty, hope, or justice. If truth changes with every generation, then no one can confidently know God or His will.

But because God has spoken, we can know Him, trust Him, and order our lives according to His Word.

This is a helpful article on the truth and trustworthiness of Scripture.

The local church is called “a pillar and buttress of the truth” (1 Timothy 3:15). In a confused age, faithful churches proclaim God’s truth clearly and lovingly.

If you’re looking for something more solid than the shifting opinions of our culture, come worship with us this Sunday.

We live in a world overflowing with information but starving for peace.

Every day brings another headline, another crisis, another reason to worry. Our phones place the troubles of the entire world into our pockets, and many people carry a burden they were never meant to bear.

Scripture does not tell us that life will be free from difficulty. Instead, God calls His people to cast their anxieties upon Him because He cares for them (1 Peter 5:7).

The Christian’s peace is not found in favorable circumstances but in a sovereign God who reigns over all things. Nothing catches Him by surprise. Nothing frustrates His purposes. Nothing can separate His children from His love.

If your heart is weary today, remember that Christ invites the burdened and heavy laden to come to Him and find rest.

Following those simple steps is not only Biblical but is far greater for your physicall and spiritual health than any amount of medication or therapy.

Good Morning, Oak Grove!

As we continue our daily reading through the New Testament, spend some time today in Acts 4. Let these questions guide your reflection as you read.

For those with spouses or children at home, consider reading the passage together as a family. Afterward, take a moment to pray—thanking God for salvation through Christ alone, for His Word, for the gift of prayer, and for boldness as we live out His mission in our everyday lives.

Reflection Questions for Acts 4

1. Why is faith in Jesus Christ the only way to God?
Acts 4:12 speaks clearly against the idea that salvation can come apart from Christ. How does this shape your understanding of truth in a culture that embraces relativism?

2. How do prayer and Scripture work together?
The apostles quote Psalm 2 in their prayer (vv. 25–26). What does this teach us about praying God’s Word back to Him?

3. How dependent are you on God’s Spirit for boldness?
Even after standing firm before the Sanhedrin, the apostles prayed for boldness. Do you experience this strengthening power of prayer in your own life?

Peter and John Before the Council
1 And as they were speaking to the people, the priests and the captain of the temple and the Sadducees came upon them, 2 greatly annoyed because they were teaching the people and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection from the dead. 3 And they arrested them and put them in custody until the next day, for it was already evening. 4 But many of those who had heard the word believed, and the number of the men came to about five thousand.
5 On the next day their rulers and elders and scribes gathered together in Jerusalem, 6 with Annas the high priest and Caiaphas and John and Alexander, and all who were of the high-priestly family. 7 And when they had set them in the midst, they inquired, “By what power or by what name did you do this?” 8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers of the people and elders, 9 if we are being examined today concerning a good deed done to a crippled man, by what means this man has been healed, 10 let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead—by him this man is standing before you well. 11 This Jesus[a] is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone.[b] 12 And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men[c]by which we must be saved.”
13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated, common men, they were astonished. And they recognized that they had been with Jesus.14 But seeing the man who was healed standing beside them, they had nothing to say in opposition. 15 But when they had commanded them to leave the council, they conferred with one another, 16 saying, “What shall we do with these men? For that a notable sign has been performed through them is evident to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it.17 But in order that it may spread no further among the people, let us warn them to speak no more to anyone in this name.” 18 So they called them and charged them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. 19 But Peter and John answered them, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge, 20 for we cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard.” 21 And when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding no way to punish them, because of the people, for all were praising God for what had happened. 22 For the man on whom this sign of healing was performed was more than forty years old.
The Believers Pray for Boldness
23 When they were released, they went to their friends and reported what the chief priests and the elders had said to them. 24 And when they heard it, they lifted their voices together to God and said, “Sovereign Lord, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and everything in them, 25 who through the mouth of our father David, your servant,[d] said by the Holy Spirit,
“‘Why did the Gentiles rage,
and the peoples plot in vain?
26
The kings of the earth set themselves,
and the rulers were gathered together,
against the Lord and against his Anointed’[e]—
27 for truly in this city there were gathered together against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, along with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, 28 to do whatever your hand and your plan had predestined to take place. 29 And now, Lord, look upon their threats and grant to your servants to continue to speak your word with all boldness, 30 while you stretch out your hand to heal, and signs and wonders are performed through the name of your holy servant Jesus.”31 And when they had prayed, the place in which they were gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and continued to speak the word of God with boldness.
They Had Everything in Common
32 Now the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul, and no one said that any of the things that belonged to him was his own, but they had everything in common. 33 And with great power the apostles were giving their testimony to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and great grace was upon them all. 34 There was not a needy person among them, for as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them and brought the proceeds of what was sold 35 and laid it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to each as any had need.36 Thus Joseph, who was also called by the apostles Barnabas (which means son of encouragement), a Levite, a native of Cyprus,37 sold a field that belonged to him and brought the money and laid it at the apostles' feet.

May the Lord fill us with the same boldness, unity, and devotion we see in the early church. Let’s continue to grow together in His Word and in His mission.
