“Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the LORD is risen upon thee” (Isaiah 60:1, KJV).
Mark this—God spoke that promise nearly five hundred years before Jesus ever drew His first breath in Bethlehem. And Jesus is the fulfillment of every word of it! He is the Light that has come. He is the glory of the Lord, dawning over a dark world and breaking into dark hearts, declaring that a new day has come.
But understand something today: this light was never meant to stop with you. God didn’t kindle His glory in you just so you could sit and soak in the warmth. No—He lit you so you would shine! Beloved, the light of Jesus does a revolutionary work in a life. The Word declares that we are “changed into the same image from glory to glory” (2 Corinthians 3:18). Glory to God! Think of it—you should be looking more like Jesus today than you did yesterday, and more tomorrow than you do right now. That’s why He said, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).
As I watch the news, I can tell you this world is desperate for that light. That’s us, family of God. We know the darkness we’ve carried. But hear the rest of it—the darkness is not just in here; it has covered the whole earth: “For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the LORD shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee” (Isaiah 60:2). And that glory is a magnet! “And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising” (Isaiah 60:3).
So why would we ever shrink back and hide our little light in our little corner? Remembering the pit we were pulled from, how can we keep silent? Somebody is lost in the dark today, waiting on a beacon. Come on family of God—arise and shine!
