Today we celebrated Dads... Thank you to everyone who attended. Lots of familiar faces a few new AND some old friends we haven't seen in a long while! Here is what I wrote for the day of course more was added, of course. It was a wonderful service.
So here it is enjoy!
Fathers day… we have never done a talk on Fathers… and their importance. We always talk about moms so this was not challenging but really made me think.. I thought about all of those strong masculine figures in my life… I think of those who have paved the way for so many men in the world .. I think of the strength and determination of those men in our lives.. Those who have fought for our freedoms… Those who have gone to the front lines.. Those who have built cities, buildings. The laborers, the truck drivers, the carpenters, the police, the masonry's, the train operators the railroad builders…The men who work tiredly to provide for a family. Who works long hours, double time over time to make sure that the family was provided for… Fact is each and every one of us would not be here with out a dad, a father, a friend, a confidant, a helper, a builder etc. Maybe your dad taught you to fish, to hunt, to build. Maybe your dad taught you to repair small things in the home. Maybe he was someone you looked up to that you were proud of for being the police man , the fireman, the sanitation worker who helped clean up the streets literally and figuratively…
And that is why we chose the tree as a symbol for dad because ….
A Tree is a Silent Teacher Not all dads are vocal
A tree symbolizes wisdom, patience, and quiet strength. Trees stand tall for years, enduring storms and seasons, showing resilience without words.
• A tree is a wise elder.
• A tree is nature’s philosopher.
• A tree is a timeless mentor.
A tree connects the grounded roots of the earth with the endless sky above. Its roots dig deep into soil while branches stretch upward, symbolizing harmony and balance.
• A tree is a ladder to the heavens.
• A tree is nature’s tower.
• A tree is the earth’s upward voice.
•
• As a mother you watch a husband see the glow in his eyes when you say “Were expecting” you see a world open up not only for you but for a family… You see the plans that he is making in his head to provide for the new family… You see your son proud when they tell you “Were expecting” and you see them begin a new journey of their lives starting a family of their own… ready to protect at all costs.. You see them working hard. You see growth. You see pride…
The Oak of Our Family
In the garden of life, the stoutest tree,
Stands a father, proud as one can be.
Roots dug deep in love and duty's soil,
For his family, he'll toil and toil.
His branches offer shade from life's harsh sun,
A sheltering embrace for his daughter or son.
Leaves that whisper wisdom, rich and grand,
A symbol of strength, our father's sturdy hand.
Seasons change, the oak remains true,
Through storms and calm, its power to renew.
In reverence, we stand before this man,
Our father, the immovable oak, the eternal clan.
