Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
With gratitude and hope, we welcome the first encyclical of Pope Leo XIV, Magnifica humanitas, a timely and profound reflection on the dignity of the human person in this age of rapid technological change.
The Holy Father invites the whole Church, and indeed all people of good will, to look again at the greatness of the human person: created in the image of God, called to communion, endowed with conscience, freedom, responsibility, and an eternal destiny. In a world increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence and digital systems, the Pope reminds us that technology must always remain at the service of humanity, never the other way around.
This encyclical is not a rejection of progress. Rather, it is a call to moral clarity. Scientific and technological innovation can be a great gift when guided by truth, justice, solidarity, and the common good. But when separated from human dignity, ethical responsibility, and the wisdom of faith, it can become a force of exclusion, control, inequality, or dehumanization.
As faithful disciples of Christ, we are invited to receive this teaching with open hearts. Pope Leo XIV asks us to reflect on how we use technology in our homes, our workplaces, our schools, our communities, and our relationships. He calls us to defend the vulnerable, protect the young, preserve authentic human encounter, and ensure that every form of progress respects the sacred value of each person.
Let us take time to read, study, and pray with Magnifica humanitas. May it help us form consciences capable of responding to the challenges of our time with courage, charity, and wisdom.
May the Lord guide Pope Leo XIV in his ministry, and may the Holy Spirit help the Church bear witness to the magnificent dignity of every human life.
