As we approach another beautiful day of worship, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the significance of Memorial Day weekend. Our freedom to worship is a sacred trust that was secured through the ultimate sacrifice of countless individuals. Let us honor their memory by celebrating this freedom and coming together in worship. If you are looking for a place to worship, we extend an invitation to join us at Mount Vernon Baptist Church, where we strive to worship our Lord and Savior with reverence and gratitude. May God bless you and your family. See you soon.

Attending church services together would be a lovely way to celebrate. If your mother is no longer with you, we encourage you to attend church services to honor her memory. We invite you to join us at Mt Vernon for Sunday worship services. May God bless all mothers and their families, and may you have a blessed Sunday.

“BARRABAS WAS ME — THE SUBSTITUTE OF GRACE”

🔰 INTRODUCTION

Barabbas was guilty… yet he walked free.
Jesus was innocent… yet He was condemned (Matthew 27:26).
This is more than history—this is a picture of substitution.

In the Dispensation of Grace, Christ did not merely suffer—He stood in our place (1 Corinthians 15:3).
👉 The truth: We are Barabbas.
👉 Christ took our cross.

✨ 1. SINNER’S CONDITION IS CONDEMNED
(All are guilty before God)

🔹 Subpoints:
All Have Sinned – Romans 3:23
All Are Under Sin – Romans 3:9
All Are Condemned Already – John 3:18
All Fall Short of God’s Glory – Romans 3:23
🔍 Explanation:
Like Barabbas, we were guilty and deserving judgment—no exception.

✨ 2. SUBSTITUTE CHRIST WAS CONDEMNED
(He took our place)

🔹 Subpoints:
Christ Died for Our Sins – 1 Corinthians 15:3
Christ Suffered the Just for the Unjust – 1 Peter 3:18
Christ Was Made Sin for Us – 2 Corinthians 5:21

Jesus took Barabbas’ place—and He took ours.
👉 The innocent died for the guilty.

Sin Debt Laid on Christ – Isaiah 53:6
Sin Condemned in His Flesh – Romans 8:3
Sin Payment Fully Satisfied – Colossians 2:14
Sin Removed by His Sacrifice – Hebrews 9:26

The punishment we deserved was transferred to Christ completely.

✨ 4. SALVATION IS FREELY CONFERRED

Saved by Grace Through Faith – Ephesians 2:8–9
Justified Freely by Grace – Romans 3:24
Given Eternal Life as a Gift – Romans 6:23

Delivered from Condemnation – Romans 8:1
Translated into New Position – Colossians 1:13

(Freedom cannot be reversed)

🔹 Subpoints:
Sealed by the Holy Spirit – Ephesians 1:13
Secured by God’s Power – 1 Peter 1:5
Separated from Condemnation Forever – Romans 8:38–39
