“I was greatly blessed to visit The Cradle of Restoration during Holy Week. I had always wondered what the Sacred Grove looked like on April 6th when young Joseph went to pray. If 1820 was anything like 2025, there were no leaves on the trees and only small flowers randomly covering the floor of the grove.
Going during mid-April was an opportunity to be at these sacred sites with little to no crowd, and to be able to "be still" and feel the spirit.
Snow on the Hill Cumorah was a bonus! The 30+ mile-an-hour northerly winds, not so much. But it sure gave a unique perspective to that sacred site.
It was a tremendous blessing to connect my family members during sessions in the Palmyra Temple (located on the original Smith Farm, and facing the Sacred Grove). It is an experience I will never forget.
The opportunity to visit the Kirtland Temple, now under the ownership of the church, was an amazing experience. As one of our missionaries said leading the tour, “President Nelson has said this is the only temple in the world that is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, no recommend needed, and everyone can attend it.“ What a neat perspective.
We are told, “Stand ye in holy places, and be not moved, until the day of the Lord come” (D&C 87:8). In holy places we are protected from the almost overwhelming commotion of the world. I would encourage everyone to visit the church historic sites, especially this year as we study the Doctrine and Covenants in Come, Follow Me. See and feel those sacred sites and make what you are learning more than "just a story." I promise you will be blessed for your efforts. It will bless you individually, and it will bless your family. Your testimonies of the restored gospel will grow, just as mine has.”
