For 20 years relationships have been building with Hollygrove Church of Christ, many founded in the simplicity of setting the table, whatever that may look like, and an open invitation to shared meals.
“One meal this past trip was especially meaningful, as it was shared around a bed. Ms. Yolanda is known by many of us for the years she
commanded the Hollygrove kitchen. Whether it was using her
week of vacation in the summers to make sure all the campers
had breakfast and lunch, or in March, when she made sure us
Tulsans knew how much butter and whole milk, never skim, to put in the mac and cheese for the annual block party. We remembered her need for a new roof, that coincided with one of our own, Clint Vaughn and his family signing up to go on the mission trip that year, and with one call, he partnered with a local roofing company to replace her old one. We remember when she had her first stroke and and an urgent call was made, she needed a ramp in order to leave her home, and the amazing
carpenters Mike Steffen and Tom Walden answered the call. And
this year, when she was unable to worship with us, Ann Hadaway
and I were able to share another meal with her — this one a
communion meal around her bed. You see, our trips to New Orleans have never been about large numbers, but about relationships.”
We are so grateful to Amy Emerson, and so many others, who have been such an intricate part of the work done with Hollygrove, and serve as examples of loving people so well through their heart for missions such as these!
Tomorrow as we gather for Missions Sunday, we celebrate and remember that the funds raised are reaching hearts and building more relationships with people like Ms. Yolanda all over the world.🤍
