Completed in 1914, the Roman Catholic Holy Family Church was the tallest building on the Tulsa skyline for a decade. The crosses atop Holy Family’s three spires have served as a beacon welcoming visitors to the city, sheltering refugees from the Tulsa race riots, and inspiring the Faithful who pray there. The church’s architecture is influenced by French, English, and German Gothic churches. Holy

Within the past year, hundreds and hundreds of visitors have come to Holy Family Cathedral.

Some people have come because of the Route 66 Anniversary. Others have made pilgrimages to see the Cathedral or to venerate the relics. Last week, three religious sisters traveling from Arizona to Nebraska chose a route through Tulsa just because they heard the church is beautiful.

You expect Gothic cathedrals to appear somewhere in Europe, not rising dramatically out of Oklahoma. Then suddenly you’re standing beneath towering arches and glowing stained glass wondering how this place isn’t on every travel bucket list already.

The Corpus Christi Procession is Thursday, June 4 starting with a 6:00 p.m. Mass at Christ the King. The procession will end at Holy Family Cathedral.

Schedule of Events:
- 4:30 PM: Shuttle service begins departing from Holy Family Cathedral (transporting participants to the start).
- 6:00 PM: Opening Mass at the Parish of Christ the King (1520 S. Rockford Ave.).
- 7:00 PM: Eucharistic Procession begins.
- 8:30 PM: Procession concludes at Holy Family Cathedral (820 S. Boulder Ave.).

On this day in 1908, the expansion of the original school building was dedicated by Bishop Meerschaert. The new wing included a Chapel for the Sisters.

The new addition is the white building on the right side of the photo.
