𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐞 𝐘𝐨𝐮?

“𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝐿𝑂𝑅𝐷 𝑖𝑠 𝑛𝑒𝑎𝑟 𝑡𝑜 𝑎𝑙𝑙 𝑤ℎ𝑜 𝑐𝑎𝑙𝑙 𝑢𝑝𝑜𝑛 𝐻𝑖𝑚, 𝑡𝑜 𝑎𝑙𝑙 𝑤ℎ𝑜
𝑐𝑎𝑙𝑙 𝑢𝑝𝑜𝑛 𝐻𝑖𝑚 𝑖𝑛 𝑡𝑟𝑢𝑡ℎ.” — Psalm 145:18

Recently, our three-year-old granddaughter was spending the night with us. During the night, she was sleeping next to her Gigi when she suddenly woke up. In her sleepy confusion, she thought Gigi was gone so she got up searching the house. When she could’t find Gigi, she began calling out, “Gigi, where are you?” The irony was that Gigi had never left. She was right there in bed the entire time. Gigi got our granddaughter back in bed and reassured her that she was still there with her. Once our granddaughter realized Gigi was still there, she settled back down and returned to sleep. How often are we just like that little child?

Where Are You?

“The LORD is near to all who call upon Him, to all who

call upon Him in truth.” — Psalm 145:18

Life has a way of making us feel alone. Difficult circumstances, unanswered prayers, health concerns, financial pressures, grief, and uncertainty can make us wonder where God is. We may find ourselves crying out, “Lord, where are You?” We search for Him in our circumstances, looking for visible evidence of His presence. Yet God has not moved.

Just as Gigi was beside her granddaughter all night, our Heavenly Father remains beside His children every moment of every day. His presence is not dependent upon our feelings. Sometimes we may not sense Him, but He has promised never to leave us. Hebrews 13:5 reminds us of God's promise: “𝐼 𝑤𝑖𝑙𝑙 𝑛𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟 𝑙𝑒𝑎𝑣𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑒, 𝑛𝑜𝑟 𝑓𝑜𝑟𝑠𝑎𝑘𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑒.” Jesus echoed that promise before ascending to heaven when He said, “𝐿𝑜, 𝐼 𝑎𝑚 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑎𝑙𝑤𝑎𝑦, 𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑛 𝑢𝑛𝑡𝑜 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑒𝑛𝑑 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑙𝑑.” (Matthew 28:20)

When we feel abandoned, God is still present. When our prayers seem to go unanswered, God is still working. When darkness surrounds us, God is still near. The psalmist declared, “𝑊ℎ𝑖𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟 𝑠ℎ𝑎𝑙𝑙 𝐼 𝑔𝑜 𝑓𝑟𝑜𝑚 𝑡ℎ𝑦 𝑠𝑝𝑖𝑟𝑖𝑡? 𝑜𝑟 𝑤ℎ𝑖𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟 𝑠ℎ𝑎𝑙𝑙 𝐼 𝑓𝑙𝑒𝑒 𝑓𝑟𝑜𝑚 𝑡ℎ𝑦 𝑝𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑒𝑛𝑐𝑒?” (Psalm 139:7) The answer is simple: nowhere. There is no place we can go where God is not already there.

Today, if you find yourself searching for God, pause and remember His promises. He is not distant. He is not absent. He is not unaware of your circumstances. He is right beside you, loving, guiding, protecting, and working on your behalf.

Like our little granddaughter, we can rest peacefully when we remember that the One we are looking for has been there all along.

𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲... 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝗻𝘂𝘁𝘀
"𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝘆 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝘁𝗵; 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘃𝗲𝘀: 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗶𝗳𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗚𝗼𝗱." - 𝗘𝗽𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝟮:𝟴 (𝗞𝗝𝗩)

Last week our two young granddaughters spent two nights with us for a sleepover. One of their favorite traditions is visiting the doughnut shop near our home.

Before bedtime on the first night, we made a deal. If the youngest granddaughter, who is three years old, would stay in her own bed all night, we would go get doughnuts the next morning.

Well, sometime during the night, little feet came padding into our room, and before long she was wanting to climb into our bed. The agreement had not been kept.

The next morning, however, both girls were excitedly asking for doughnuts. Rather than simply saying yes or no, we saw an opportunity for a lesson.

We explained that grace means receiving something we do not deserve. We talked about how Jesus showed us grace when He paid the price for our sins even though we could never earn His forgiveness. Then we told them that we were going to show grace and take them for doughnuts anyway.

Later that day we asked the girls what grace meant. The older granddaughter quickly answered, “Getting something you don't deserve.” The younger one smiled and proudly replied, “Doughnuts!”

While her answer made us laugh, there is a profound truth hidden in her simple response. Grace really is receiving an undeserved gift.

The Bible teaches that every one of us has sinned. “𝘍𝘰𝘳 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘥, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘨𝘭𝘰𝘳𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘎𝘰𝘥” (Romans 3:23). Because of our sin, we deserve judgment, not blessing. Yet God loved us so much that He sent His Son to take our place. “𝘉𝘶𝘵 𝘎𝘰𝘥 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘵𝘩 𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘰𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘶𝘴, 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵, 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘦 𝘸𝘦 𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘺𝘦𝘵 𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘴, 𝘊𝘩𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘵 𝘥𝘪𝘦𝘥 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘶𝘴” (Romans 5:8).

Unlike our granddaughter's doughnuts, God's grace cost Him everything. Jesus endured the cross, bore our sins, and paid a debt we could never repay. Through faith in Him, we receive forgiveness, eternal life, and a relationship with God—not because we earned it, but because He freely gives it.

The next time you enjoy an unexpected blessing, remember the lesson of the doughnuts. Every breath we take, every answered prayer, every promise of Heaven is a reminder that our God is a God of grace.

And perhaps, like a three-year-old, we can simply smile and say, "Grace is getting something wonderful that I didn't deserve."

𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐎𝐟 𝐄𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭

On the front cover of a card sent to me a statement which is true for you too, so let me encourage you. The Apostle Paul wrote to the Philippians “If, then, there is any encouragement in Christ, if any consolation of love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, make my joy complete by thinking the same way, having the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose.” Philippians 2:1-2 HSB

Just think. You’re here not by chance but by God’s own choosing. He formed you into the great person that you are. There is no one who compares with you. He created you as one of a kind. He also knew the exact time and place that you should be here. He planned the days of your life far in advance and has set you on this course to make a great difference in the lives of so many. Go forth with the knowledge that your steps are directed by the Lord. The will of our Lord will never take you where the grace of God will not protect you. His heart is touched by your passion and your commitment. May you find encouragement in your walk of faith.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐥𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐒𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞

Death is inevitable for all humans unless the Lord returns at the Rapture of the Church for all true Believers. We need not fear death because Jesus Christ conquered sin and death when He died on the Cross for our sins. Many, if not most, believe they will be accepted by God on the basis of their own goodness. But the Bible clearly teaches that “𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑛𝑜𝑛𝑒 𝑟𝑖𝑔ℎ𝑡𝑒𝑜𝑢𝑠, 𝑛𝑜 𝑛𝑜𝑡 𝑜𝑛𝑒” (Romans 3:10) Jesus, therefore, is the only one who can remedy our sin problem. With this in mind, we should not sin or take it lightly, but obediently follow God’s leading in our lives. The Bible admonishes us to follow His guidance and obey Him. The Lord Jesus Christ paid the ultimate price for our sins. This comes to us through God’s Grace. God doing something for us that we don’t deserve. Someone put it this way, “𝙂𝙤𝙙’𝙨 𝙍𝙞𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙨 𝘼𝙩 𝘾𝙝𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙩’𝙨 𝙀𝙭𝙥𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙚”.

In life we often talk about making an ultimate sacrifice. We think of those who serve our country and give their life through their military service - often spoken of as the ultimate sacrifice. Many reading this devotional have lost a loved one through service in our armed forces. On Monday as we celebrate Memorial Day, we want to remember those who have given their lives. We want to be appreciative to all who serve in our military, but especially to those who have given their lives with their ultimate and complete dedication.

As we consider what has been given by so many let us remember the words of Scripture when it says, “𝘍𝘰𝘳 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘧𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘥𝘰𝘮, 𝘮𝘺 𝘣𝘳𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘴. 𝘉𝘶𝘵 𝘥𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘧𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘥𝘰𝘮 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘴𝘧𝘺 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦. “Are You Ready for Final Exams”

This week or within the next few will be final exams in our end of the school year. What the students have faithfully studied, they hope they can remember. I am reminded of two incidents that happened in college in regard to final exams. One is of a fellow in the dorm who did not apply himself in his studies during the semester and about thirty-minutes before the exam would get down on his knees in his room and pray, asking God to help him on the test. He would get up, go take the test and most often fail. He then would comment, “Well, I guess it was not God’s will that I pass the test.” Sad to say, many people today take the same approach in life.

The second memory from college was one professor who said, “What we have not covered in class, we will cover on the exam.” Much to the regret of the class, he was not joking.

Hints For Students Taking Final Exams

1. Remember that “this shall pass (even though you may not).
2. Do your best. Study your hardest. Commit the results to God.
3. Don’t expect God to rescue you from your lack of discipline.
4. There is a point of diminishing returns in your study. Do not allow yourself to become physically, emotionally, and spiritually drained. Being well-rested will make you more effective for the exam.
5. Don’t study just to make a good grade. Instead, focus on learning important material as completely as possible.
6. Place “the final” final exam first on your priority list: ”Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.” Don’t let daily concerns crowd out eternal values.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐎𝐟 𝐀 𝐆𝐨𝐝𝐥𝐲 𝐌𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫

A Godly mother is one of God’s greatest gifts to a family. Her influence is often seen not only in what she says, but in how she lives — through her love, faith, patience, sacrifice, and devotion to the Lord. The Bible paints a beautiful picture of women who nurture their families while pointing them toward God.

One of the greatest qualities of a Godly mother is her reverence for the Lord. Beauty, talent, and accomplishments may fade with time, but a heart devoted to God leaves an eternal legacy.

“𝐹𝑎𝑣𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑖𝑠 𝑑𝑒𝑐𝑒𝑖𝑡𝑓𝑢𝑙, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑏𝑒𝑎𝑢𝑡𝑦 𝑖𝑠 𝑣𝑎𝑖𝑛: 𝑏𝑢𝑡 𝑎 𝑤𝑜𝑚𝑎𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑓𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑒𝑡ℎ 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐿𝑜𝑟𝑑, 𝑠ℎ𝑒 𝑠ℎ𝑎𝑙𝑙 𝑏𝑒 𝑝𝑟𝑎𝑖𝑠𝑒𝑑.”

A Godly mother also teaches and guides her children with wisdom and kindness. Her words have the power to encourage, comfort, and shape hearts for years to come.

“𝑆ℎ𝑒 𝑜𝑝𝑒𝑛𝑒𝑡ℎ ℎ𝑒𝑟 𝑚𝑜𝑢𝑡ℎ 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ 𝑤𝑖𝑠𝑑𝑜𝑚; 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑖𝑛 ℎ𝑒𝑟 𝑡𝑜𝑛𝑔𝑢𝑒 𝑖𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑙𝑎𝑤 𝑜𝑓 𝑘𝑖𝑛𝑑𝑛𝑒𝑠𝑠.”

The love of a Godly mother reflects the nurturing heart of God Himself. Even during difficult seasons, she continues to care, pray, and stand faithfully for her family.

“𝐻𝑒𝑟 𝑐ℎ𝑖𝑙𝑑𝑟𝑒𝑛 𝑎𝑟𝑖𝑠𝑒 𝑢𝑝, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑐𝑎𝑙𝑙 ℎ𝑒𝑟 𝑏𝑙𝑒𝑠𝑠𝑒𝑑; ℎ𝑒𝑟 ℎ𝑢𝑠𝑏𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑎𝑙𝑠𝑜, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 ℎ𝑒 𝑝𝑟𝑎𝑖𝑠𝑒𝑡ℎ ℎ𝑒𝑟.”

Another beautiful quality is the example of sincere faith. Children may forget many words spoken over the years, but they rarely forget a mother who genuinely trusted God.

Paul reminded Timothy of this very truth:

Godly mothers are not perfect mothers. They grow weary, make mistakes, and face struggles like everyone else. Yet they continue leaning on God for strength and wisdom day by day. Through quiet acts of faithfulness, they help build homes filled with love, grace, and truth.

Whether through prayers whispered late at night, words of encouragement during hard times, or steadfast love shown every day, the influence of a Gdly mother reaches far beyond what she may ever see this side of Heaven.
